    Hi Sunny,

For online use, you might want to consider a web site based publication, as those pdfs do get huge!

However, unless carefully done, it would not be as versatile, transportable or printable as a pdf.

    Cheers,

    Hi Ashooor,

I think I have done the traditional welcome elsewhere, but thanks for thinking to pop over here and do an intro. as well.

Glad the first day was so good, let's hope we can keep it at that level.

    Cheers,

What sort of camera and lens(es) are you shooting with?

A friend of mine bought a camera and let it sit virtually unused. Said I could borrow it -- so it has been in my possession for about a year. It's a Canon 300D, lenses are an EFS 18-55 and Tamron 70-300. Not much time left on the borrowed program before I go back to my old pocket camera. Getting my fill while I can.

Thanks for withholding the tongue lashing regarding my chosen profession. If it makes you feel better or differently I have been unemployed for almost a year and probably will have to find another profession due to this lousy economy.

    Happy travels!

    Hi Nancy,

    Now I feel awful
Sorry - just goes to show how easy it is to 'put one's foot in it', what was supposed to be a "we don't take ourselves too seriously here" cheeky welcome message just went badly wrong

FWIW Photography might be an idea, but that's easy for me to say, actually earning a living from it must be immensely hard, especially starting from scratch with no kit. I'm going to shut up before I dig an even bigger hole.

    Cheers,

    Re: Just another newbie.

    Hi Everybody!
Well, I will cut my story short. My father used to shoot photos using a prehistoric SLR camera and than develop them on his own. I was a kid at that time. I grew up, he didn't. Nevermind. I could never touch anything apart from my own plastic, cheap point and shoot equipment. And I have never developed anything on my own. That era has finished. I have done my studies, started my own career, got married and have a beautiful 7 month old little cute girl (and you gonna see some pics for sure). In a mean time, when I was busy "making" my life became what it is now, digital has arrived. There was a spark in me.... whenever I've seen a proper camera that spark turned into a flame. My sister got one (she probably inherited sth like me), my good mate as well (I was jealous like hell during hiking in The Lake Distrct when he pull out his Nikon D90 with some X00mm lenses and I had my wifes Nikon 3.2M pointer. The upside was, i didn't have to carry an extra backpack). Anyway, it finally got me. I saved up for a good camera. I've read a little bit and understood that I need good lenses to go with it or otherwise no point in a good SLR. So, Canon EOS 50D and EF 17-40mm 1:4 L USM. I keep reading and i try to learn all the stuff i need to know to make nice pictures. I look at 'yours' and I know I have a long way to go. I just hope that You can help me become a better enthusiast photographer. I already have a couple of questions but I think i will just create a separate thread. For now i just keep reading everything that comes in my way with the camera manual in the first place.

Sorry, suposed to keep it short....
Thanks, and a Happy New Year!!!

    Hi Taon,

I'm not a Canon man myself, but from what I've learned round here, it sounds like you've chosen well there with the camera and lens

So, apart form pics of your daughter, I'm guessing you're more into landscapes than wildlife with that lens?

Can't wait to see some shots, so I'll sign off with a "welcome to the CiC forums from ..."

    Greetings and salutations,

Somehow I stumbled across this site and feel like I've found a fountain of knowledge. I'm thinking most members on here are way past my level so I'm hoping to learn a lot of new things.

I am 29 years old and live in Saskatchewan, Canada. I bought a 40d last summer and have been teaching myself/experimenting ever since. My current lenses are:
    11-16mm f/2.8 Tokina
    17-85mm f/4-5.6 Canon
    70-300 f/4-5.6 Sigma
    50mm f/1.8 Canon

    Cheers!

Hi, looks like a interesting site, a great source for anything photo, and then some ..
I'm a newbie here, background in IT, up until July 08. Active , more/less in photography
for the last 40 years. Besides that, my interests are fishing (spin & fly), birding, kayaking,
hiking and travel. Presently I own a Canon Xsi and a few kit lenses. And, I always carry my Pentax waterproof P&S. I also shoot local sporting/general interest activity for my towns (unofficial) web site and do some seasonal youth sports photography.

    Hi Guenther,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.

You've quite a nice spread of lenses there, I just have the middle covered with a single 18-200 myself - actually I also have a very old 50/1.8 too, but it hardly ever goes on because it is manual everything, and I'm too lazy

Look forward to seeing some shots soon.

    Best regards,

    Hi Bluefin,

If you've been that busy, any photos we can peruse?
(You may call me 'nosey' )

Tell me; "birding", is that like "twitching", but with a camera?

I'd better explain; a twitcher (in UK slang) is a bird watcher, but particularly one that travels the country when they hear tell of a sighting of a rare visitor to our shores - I hope that's the same where-ever you're from.

Or is it say, birds of prey type flying?

btw, a first name would be handy, thanks.

How do you like the tokina lens?

The 50mm is my favorite lens to use.

I'd have to say the Tokina is my favourite lens. I get the most use out of that, until I used the new 50mm. I think it would be a great lens, but it's broken already...

The focus ring stopped moving freely and then the lens got stuck on the camera body. I got it off after a few tries but it broke and now I'm hoping for warranty replacement.

    Hi Billy,

Thanks for the Happy New Year elsewhere

So you're not that far from me then, assuming that's Surrey as in the county next to Berkshire and sorta a bit to the south south west of London - to give it meaning for the folks elsewhere in the world

What sort of things do you like to shoot with the D200?
    What lens(es) do you have?
What software do you use for PP (Post processing)?

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

Hello to all at CiC, I have just joined your Forum after browsing the article on Lens filters, I thought the information and advice in the article to be first rate.

I have just recently re-newed my interest in SLR photography after a lapse of some 30 odd years and, oh how the cameras have changed, I used to shoot with a Konica Auto-Reflex T, which back in 1970 was considered to be state of the art.
    I have now bought myself a Nikon D700 {I'm now considering taking a degree in engineering to get to understand all it's functions}

I look forward to using the Tutorials to help me with my grappling with the camera and Photoshop Elements.

    Cheers,
    Dando

    Hi Dave
    Thanks for the welcome.
Yes I live ‘down the road’ from you, in fact as a firefighter one of the largest fires I have attended was in your area, you may remember it? A big house on the top of a hill.
My photography took a back seat when I got married and had children.
Then a few years ago my wife bought me a Nikon coolpix S500 which rekindled my interest.
I am lucky enough to have a cousin who is a professional and used to let me have use of his equipment (Nikon).
Then in Oct 2008 I very sadly lost my older brother and was left his D200 so I am putting it to good use.

    My own lenses are:
    Nikkor 17-55mm 1:2.8
    70-200mm 1:2.8
    Sigma 105mm 1:2.8 macro ( my Christmas present )
Photoshop Elements is my PP software.

My favourite subjects at the moment are garden birds and flowers.

I was looking at different sites and tutorials to learn and pickup inspiration when I found yours.
I look forward to joining in!
    Cheers Bill

That was a while ago, in fact I think I lived in Surrey back then myself (only just: Englefield Green, up on another hill). Like a few (usually bad) things in life, I find it's one of those that you remember where you were when told of the news! I think they've 'fixed it up' now

Yes, I know that feeling, although in retrospect, especially when you see what people like Ali round here achieves, clearly we should have kept going! Although (my excuse is) it is far easier to do that with digital than film.

That's a reasonable lens range and at least the subjects are close at hand, who is the gardener of the family?

Elements is good, I have that and there's a lot of experience with it here, plus a lot of the Photoshop advice also works on it too.
