Thank you for the welcome.
There is a State park close by, and I love to go there to take pictures. I usually drag my kids and their friends there so I can practice on them. I've gotten a picture of a bobcat, but I definitely couldn't get close enough with the kit lens to get a good, clear close up. Same with all the baby ducks. (Although I don't think they would have had the same bite.) Tons of beautiful trees and a lake, so possibilities are endless. Oh, and I practice a lot on my dog

Hello from sunny Florida! This appears to be a great site for drawing on a vast knowledge base under a constructive tone - it seems very comfortable. This is important to me, since you may endure some pretty stupid questions as I get my feet wet
I am highly interested in photography and believe I have an eye for it. I just need to develop the reflexes to recognize the moment before it passes, and the understanding to make the proper adjustment to my camera and lens to ensure I capture the image. I always have my camera, and am not shy about taking my truck into woods or through gates to get a shot off at something that catches my attention, i.e. a canopied river or orange groves on rolling hills under a magenta sky.
I look forward to opening a dialog with the seasoned pros here and gaining some insight and guidance. Thank you for the warm welcome.
Hi Ed,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, glad to have you join us.
I know exactly what you mean about developing an eye for a composition, or 'seeing' the event before it happens, both come with practice.
We can help with the former, for example if you post some pictures (in the appropriate thread) for critique, assuming they're not shot too 'tight', we can advise on alternative crops.
For the latter, in my experience, it generally comes down to having a familiarity with the subject and/or location; if a criiter does "x", after a while, you learn that usually "y" follows, then you can be ready. In terms of lighting, just be aware that the sun moves 15 degrees an hour, so in three hours that's 45 degrees, in 6 hours that's 90 degrees, now you can work out what time to come back and have it coming from a certain direction.
Thus I would advise revisiting the same location a few times over days/weeks/months, rather than always going somewhere new, at least in the beginning. After a bit, you'll know which locations work best at which times of the day (and season).
Anyway, that's all a bit specific for the intro thread, but do post any questions in the appropriate forum to ensure a better visibility and more answers. Don't worry about them being "stupid", there's no such thing
Best regards,
hello guys..!!!

Hi all,
My name is Antony and I have just started a photography course with the view to going on to do photography as a profession. I came across your site and have found it incredibly informative and full of good advice and best practice. I currently have a Nikon D40x, but looking to upgrade in the not to distant future.
Looking forward to improving my photography with you all.
Best Wishes to u all.
Hello Everybody,
This is one of the most websites that I found myself benefit from.
I have a funny story as a new photographer. I had reserved a budget $150-$250 to buy a Camera.. I read articles and made a lot of research, I ended up buying Sony HX1 for $399 .. I used it for a month then I found my self returning this Camera to the Store and replacing it with Sony A380 with 2 lenses 18-55mm and 75-300mm !!!
I don't know what is going to happen to me next !!! I am still having difficulty with the size of the DSLR and the burden of replacing the lenses for the different situations in comparison to my old compact HX1 !! .. but i am enjoying it a lot..
Have a nice shot everybody.
Mohamed
hi everyone! i was into photography a long, long time ago and i may have stopped taking pictures and tickering with cameras for about 20 years. my interest just re-surfaced a few days ago and i was surfing the net for developments in digital photography. what a welcome thing there is a community such as where i am being welcomed now!
Welcome aboard. I do not get as much time as I would like to follow the progress of this site but it has been very useful to me and I am sure you will find the same. Everyone is very keen to help and the advice is always very good. Welcome aboard.
Hi there,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.
In respect of colour management, do have a search of the forums, or ask a question in the Image PP forum as it directly relates to you.
Colin, the other moderator, is well placed to advise on the topic and has a 'radar' for such questions
There are also the tutorials of course, 5 in total in the "Photo Tips and Tools" section on this page;
https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials.htm
Could I ask for your first name please?
Thanks,
Hi Anthony,
Great to have you join us.
Out of interest, is that like a 3 year degree course from doing it as a hobby, or an evening class to get you started?
Best way to improve is plenty of practice plus honest and constructive critique of the images; so if you do the first bit and post a few pics here, we can help with the second bit.
Where abouts in the world are you?
What lenses do you have available for the D40x?
Enough questions, I'll just sign off by saying Welcome to the CiC forums from ...
Hi Mohamed,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me.
Yes, the extra size, weight and complexity can be a burden if you're used to less.
What sort of subjects do you like to photograph?
Perhaps we could see some examples; for critique, or in the mini-competitions?
Best regards,
Hi there,
Let me be the first to welcome you
I was in your position in 2007 and started with a bridge camera, one of those point and shoots that look like a DSLR, but aren't, it did me well (with RAW and the usual DSLR P, A, S, M modes) learning, but eventually I blew a small fortune on a DSLR and I have just added two lenses
Have you got any film lenses you might consider using? (what brand) or is the first task to identify a whole new system?
If I could also just ask for a first name please?
I should also say; do not hesitate to ask questions here.
Anyway, here's the full; Welcome to the CiC forums from ...
Hello Everyone!
I am portuguese, from Oporto.
I just joined the forum yesterday following the suggestion of an already senior member, António Correia (also portuguese member).
I became photographer back in 2004 and since then I am trying to always improve my skills and the quality of my pictures (mainly focused on architecture, night , trips and cityscapes).
My full galleries are located at www.pbase.com/ruilopes and www.ruilopes/smugmug.com
From now on, I´ll try to contribute either posting some of my pictures and also sharing my experiences and learn from the great tutorials António told me about.
Best Regards to all of you.
Rui
Hi Rui,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have another memeber, especially one who knows Antonio.
I have only just started looking at your PBase galleries, I'm overwhelmed, you certainly have travelled a lot since 2004.
Excellent pictures too, so I definitely think we'll be learning from you most of the time!
I'll go back and have a proper look later, I should be out now.
Best regards,
I would like to add my welcomes to all the new members. Since March, my knowledge of how to and what to do has expanded greatly thanks to all the knowledgeable people who make up this site. The respect and willingness to help is amazing! I look forward to seeing the work of all the new posters.
TC!
