Hello, Ray. Welcome to CiC. There are a lot of members here who likes the same kind of photography as you do. Your username reminded me of my previous dog, he's a rescued blue heeler who really loves to run around and play all day. If you have one, I bet you really love their playfulness and loyalty. Cheers!

    Hi all,

My name is Jan and come from a small village near Rotterdam, The Netherlands. With ups and downs I make pictures for more then 40 years. Luckily the darkroom is replaced by a computer and also in colour. Last 5 years I was focussing on macros. I have made nearly all my macros on the same place. So I get a good idea what variety there is in insects on that small spot. Last year I was mainly searching for malformed or strange behaviour of the insects. I know for sure that I have to learn constantly to improve my pictures. Every suggestion or advice is welcome for me.
Soon I transfer to Tagoloan, Philippines. A whole new world of insects waits there also for me

    Cheers,
    Jan

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi Dave,

I go to the Philippines to enjoy of my retirement. An extra is that I can make complete new macros there. I have here my website. A difficulty is the short period of good light for outside pictures. Hopefully I can correct that somewhat with Nikon Capture NX2 in combination with Nik Color Efex Pro filters

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello all.
My name is Mark (my web name is often McTuba) and I have been reading 'Cambridge in Colour' for a while now. I finally had some time to sit down and become a part of this forum (sabbatical). My "day job" is a music professor at a university (Central Michigan University) teaching tuba and euphonium (thus my screen name of McTuba = Mark Cox + tuba). I have been in photography for years, but only started taking it seriously a few years ago after much prodding from my wife.

It is amazing how much music and photography have in common. Manipulating sound waves and light waves, thinking the shot/think the musical line, etc. all go "hand-in-hand." I can't count how many books and articles that I have read that refer to music and photography in the same sentence. One of the wonderful things about being a musician is I get to travel the world on other people's dime. My wife (a pianist and my accompanist) travel everywhere to perform. With that, all I have to do is bring my camera along (currently a Canon 7d) and grab shots from remote, exotic and wonderful places.

Most of my stuff can be found at www.eutustudio.com, but I also have things at Flickr (search 'mctuba'), Betterphoto.com and 1x.com. I love to shoot everything, though, the shots that get most of the attention are my animal shots (I think this is because I grew up on a farm in California around thousands of animals). I am looking forward to reading and discussing many things at this site (I have already learned a bunch from the forums that I have perused).

Maybe I will run into a couple of you along the way. This has already happened a number of times at the other sites (see above) where I am active.

    Many thanks,
    Mark

Mark Hello and a warm welcome as a member, after your time in the background.

We did have a discussion about the connection between music and photography some time ago. You are quite correct in making the link. They are, after all, about the creation of something that can do such things as challenge, entertain, question, amuse and inform.

Please do join in the discussions and post up some of your images.

    Hello all @ CIC...

I am originally from the beautiful county of Wiltshire south west England, famous for world heritage Neolithic sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury Stone Circle, pre-Roman archaeology, and the birthplace of the Great Western steam railway.Over the years I have loved photographing people of Wiltshire towns, villages and the landscape.
I now spend most of my time living in Bulgaria, with its stunning scenery beautiful climate and one of the oldest countries, history wise on the planet, its warm and friendly people and magnificent places have invigorated my photography to a new level. Been a keen photographer now for some 40+ years

Hi Glyn and welcome to CiC. Been to Wiltshire, but never made it to Bulgaria ... yet!

Hope you're enjoying what you've seen of CiC so far and are finding that you get a much better level of discussion on here. Certainly the knowledge and skill level and the chance to tap into all that experience is one of the strengths of the site. Hope you become a full part of that.

    Hi Donald,

Thanks for the welcome, nice site easy on the eye and very informative, wish I had found it earlier before I shelled out on a years membership to another site, which now I have found since joining in January is run and supported by a lot of stuck up people who think they are better than anyone else....

Hello! My name is Al Toepfer and I live in Albuquerque, NM USA. I have traveled extensively for business and pleasure, and have photographed in the U. S., Europe, Russia, South America, Japan and Antarctica. Landscape, wildlife, travel, and hot air balloons have been my main subjects. My recent images were obtained using Nikon D200 and D90 digital cameras. What interested me in this forum is the tutorials, especially those on color management and printing. I am presently focusing on improving the fine art aspects of my work and am a member of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club here in Albuquerque where we have a very active photography community. Rather than post a photo here, you may go to my new web site: http://alan-toepfer.artistwebsites.com/index.html to see some of my work. I am still in the process of uploading images.

    Hi Alan,
I am really fond of your image "Splash and Dash"! Love the circles in the sand and the color of the balloon against the tans.
My sister was a crew member in Albuquerque and I got to participate in a splash into the Rio Grande. Had a camera in one hand and a foot of water in the bottom of the basket while I was perched on the rim of the basket. It was a lot of fun.
Welcome and I look forward to seeing more images on your site!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi, I'm Nelson, and I'm an aspiring photographer.

I found this site when I was trying to justify going from a
superzoom to a 1.5x format camera. The tutorial on "Digital
Camera Sensor Sizes: How Do These Influence Phototgraphy"
was just the ticket. Many of the tutorials are perfect in
    size and intormation for me.

I've been lurking here and on dpreview and I find the general
tone quite different. Does anyone read the entire review of
cameras at dpreview? Let's just say that the people here are
much more friendly and helpful. If the moderation is due to
    moderators, then "thank you moderators."

My photography started in High School when I got a Minolta
SR-7 SLR film camera. They were the rage then (if you have
not guessed yet, I'm an old fart). Since the advent of digital,
I've had a number of cameras, ending with the Canon Powershot
SD800 IS and the Panasonic DMC-FZ28 which I got two years ago.
I'm ready to jump to a Nikon D7000 with a Tamron 18-270 zoom
lens (chosen with some help from CIC).

Have I found a "groove" in photography? Not yet. I don't
drag my camera everywhere I go. I mostly use it for snapshots
of travel and grandchildren. But one of my teachers says I
have an "eye for closeups", so you'll probably see some close
    ups and textures from me.

The "avatar" I've chosen is a photo I took in Italy in 2009.
It was chosen to be hung at a local photography show recently
among some good competition, so I guess it passes the "smell
test." Here's a test of that image a little bigger.

Yep, anything out of line and we send the boys round to have a chat.

Thank you for your comments about the site. As you've already found out CiC is different than a lot of other forums in terms of the constructive nature of the exchanges that take place and the fact that an underpinning principle of the site is about learning and about supporting other people.

So please do join in and I look forward to seeing some of your images.
