while on holiday i got bored and started surfing the web to find out how to use my camera better which ended up with me buying a better one (canon eos 550d).I am a true beginer but wow the photos i have seen on this site and others just amaze me.Thank you and look forward to enjoying the advice you all give out and you never know i my be able to give some good adivce too.Once again hello to you all.

You've now been through the first part of the initiation ceremony in finding out how addictive (and expensive if you let it) photography can be!

And I hope you continue to find that this forum and the tutorials that sit alongside it are resources that can help you develop your knowledge and skills and help you achieve your photographic ambitions. Remember - although you see some wonderful images on the site, every person that took them was once exactly where you are now in terms of their learning.

Another thing to keep telling yourself is that it's very easy to get caught up in all the talk about the new and latest 'must have' equipment and feel that unless you buy it you'll never be any good as a photographer. Rubbish! The camera and all the other equipment are only tools to help you achieve your potential. It's you that makes the pictures. The camera only captures light. So, master the equipment you have now and, in the future, if you wish, you can think of extending by buying new lenses etc.

The good thing about CiC is that members here are not in the same class of equipment 'geeks' that occupy a lot of other photography forums. We're more interested in the quality of the images than how big your lens is.

Hello everyone. My name is Will & I live part-time in London, Ontario, Canada and part-time in Cottonwood, Arizona, USA. I have been taking pictures all of my life but have only gotten serious the last 5 or 6 years.

My interests vary greatly, from macro to landscape and everything in between. There are several "themes" that I have become very interested in developing: black and white (I'm a huge Ansel Adams fan), "painterly" images and blending multiple images. I have had several successes with my images in competitions and have sold a number of my images over the last few years. Although I still work, my real passion has become photography.

I currently own several digital cameras including a Canon 10D, Canon XTi and a Nikon P6000 (point & shoot).

I love to travel the Southwest of the United States - so much in fact that we bought a house down there & now spent 6 months each year in Arizona where the photo ops are endless.

I will be posting images on the forum and I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on how I might improve. I look forward to viewing everyone's images on this forum. What I have seen so far is very impressive (and somewhat intimidating). I have included one image which I call "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder". This image did well in competition & won the People's Choice Award in a Sedona, Arizona competition. It is a picture of a horse's eye with a picture of Cathedral Rock reflected in the eye.

My name is Amanda, I live in beautiful Manitoba, Canada. I've been interested in photography for a long time. I have a Nikon 35mm FE that I use, both color and black and white film. Wanted to try out a digital SLR, and bought a Nikon D90 over 2 years ago, with a few lens. My main focus is on nature and landscape photography. Been wanting to try portrait photography, but unsure of where to start.

Whiteshell Provincial Park is one of my favorite places to go to capture the nature that is all around us.

Hello to everyone from Perthshire, Scotland. My name is Donald, the hairline is receding fast and why does my age have a 5 as the first digit instead of a 2 or a 3!
I was born and lived in the Highlands of Scotland (Fort William and Inverness areas, for those who know that part of the world), for the first 35 years of life. And then 'emigrated' 100+ miles south to Perthshire.
I work in child protection, in a role that (attempts) to co-ordinate the activities of police, health, social services and NGOs, in relation to developing and delivering services to vulnerable children and young people.
The passion for photography was inspired by a teacher in school many years ago. He had set up a darkroom in the school and introduced me to the wonders of making images. When I started earning some money, a Canon AV1 became my pride and joy. Then other things in life took over and photography became a memory. But now ......!
I've just entered the world of digital photography and am on a very steep learning curve. Using a Canon EOS40D (bought just before the January price-hike), with the kit 17-85 IS USM lens with Cokin Grads and Polariser.
Am delighted that I found this forum. All the posts I've read so far show a real sense of community - a place where constructive comment, advice and guidance is offered. Looking forward to being part of it.

Hi.... Good evening everybody...
I am a doctor by profession, and have been very interested in Photography since my school days... I used to own a Minolta, fully manual, only metering was TTL. I lost in long many years back, sometime in 1997, and with it went my passion... :-(
The engagement in profession in initial years made it hard to nurture the hobby. But now, after so many years, I have got a used Nikon D70s, and plan to engage in nurturing my hobby...
Digital photography is quite not the same as film photography, and I hope to try my hands with different lenses before I get newer body.
I have been around this site for quite many weeks, reading the tutorials, and getting myself ready to take a week long vacation once I get hold of some good lenses...
Then I shall post again..

Hello. My name is Michelle and I am living on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Lifelong passion for photography. The one on the school bus taking pictures on field trips, fast forward to today where everything I look at I think about how I would want to compose the shot. Love taking pictures at my children's sporting events and my animals. Also enjoy photographing flowers, birds, sunrise, sunsets. Would like to start taking family portraits. I shot for a family last Fall-found it a bigger challenge than I expected, so would love to learn some tips. A friend at work just asked me to take some of her family and my hands are already sweating! But said "sure" with a confident smile on my face! I use my Canon 7D with the kit lens 28-135 and Canon 55-250 lens. 430EXll for my flash.
