Hello there and welcome to CiC. Did you know you can edit your profile and inswert your proper name under 'Real Name'. You can also say where in the wrold you are under 'Location'. If you've been looking at CiC fro any length of time, you'll have seen that we operate in a more friendly and personal basis than many other fora. So, knowing who we're engaging with and where they are is important to us.

As for your question, I'm going to move this into a new thread in Digital Cameras & Equipment forum. It will be seen by more people there and likely to attract more responses.

Hi, I am a newbie to photography. I took a class in college many decades ago, and used to putter around with a film camera until fairly recently. I recently purchased a Canon 5D Mark II and have been struggling with the owner's manual. A couple of books have been helpful to learn the features, but once I am in the field everything, or almost everything, seems to go out the window. Being recently retired, I hope to become proficient in photography and want to learn framing so that I can do the whole creative thing from start to finish. Look forward to participating on the site and learning and sharing with others.

Ah hah. I think everyone on here probably knows exactly what you mean. And I'm afraid the only cure is practice, practice and practice. And, ofteh without you even being consciously aware, things start to happen and you realise that less and less is going out of the window and is, instead, starting to translate into what you do.

So, do stick with it. And ask lots of questions on here. People will be more than happy to share their knowledge and experience.

Hello everyone,

My name is Ernest, I live in Koper, Slovenia. I started to take photographs when I was 14 and I even had a small darkroom in a bathroom for a while. I never really lost my interest in photography, however, it was difficult to find enough time and money to go on with some serious amateurism. With the advent of digital photography I bought a compact Nikon camera which I have been using for several years. Finally, last month, I decided to buy a Canon 550D with the ordinary 18-55 lens. Now I am thinking about getting a zoom, probably EF 70-200 f4. I wouldn't like to invest too much for the moment, because it is still risky ... well, I hope it will work, and I will be able to find fun in photography again. I must say, CIC is of great help, thanks.

Hello I am Donald most people just call me Donnie. I live in Indiana, happily married, Love to travel around in our Motorcoach. It took me 30 years but decided to go back to school for a degree. So I am going to Academy of Art online for Photography. Just starting out but having fun so far. When my wife and I travel on vacation we take a lot of photos (1200-1500). I found this website seen that it will help me along with school.

I have just joined CIC however I have had it bookmarked and been using it for a long long time. I think it's one of the best photographic sites on the web.
I'm from Australia, the beautiful Blue Mountains, just to the west of Sydney. Recently retired, photography (which has been my passion for many years) has been a wonderful bridge between my working life and my new life. I'm immersed in courses, learning, taking photos and meeting new like-minded people and this has improved my photography no end. I enjoy most forms of photography and move around them as my passion and opportunities change.

I live near Cambridge, England and have just bought a Nikon D5000 with 18-55 VR lens and have a lot to learn as I have not owned a SLR before, not even for film. I am looking forward to using the tutorials and, at some stage, adding another lens.

I am deeply into the concept of holding a moment of time to recall whenever the need arrives.
It means much more since I dont have the best memorie. with that said photography doubles in meaning to me.

I am very impressed with this website as far as the techinque and tutorial tabs. wonderful work.

I am a highly intrested amature that has own four canon P&S cameras, not quite ready and not in the budget for a DSLR. i have my sights on Powershot SX30 IS. Its a major upgrade from my current powershot sx120.

I hope to see and meet all of you around my trails with in this impressive site.

I'm quite new to photography, but it has turned into an obsessive hobby for me over the last 10 months... I always had an interest in photography growing up, but never did mcuh to pursue it until about a year ago. Really wish I started earlier as there is SO much to grasp and learn... But I really enjoy reading different tutorials, sites, articles and practicing new techniques to improve. This site/forum looks to be an excellent resource for me to improve. The tutorials & technique articles have been quite helpful already... and reading from reading the forums - it seems like this is a positive and helpful group of people... I'm excited to learm more and hopefully share something myself....

Please don't hld back on asking any photography related questions that you need answers to, even if you think they're not 'good enough' questions.
