    Hello Jamie,

Those excellent tutorials brought many people to this site, myself included. For some time, I kept refering to the tutorials for advice then recently joined this forum, after the forum which I had been using started changing and I felt that I didn't really fit in there anymore.

I find things are more relaxed and helpful here, wonderfully courteous even gentlemanly to use an old English expression.

Somebody will always answer and try to help with any questions so just ask away.

    Geoff.

    Hi Fellas,

I'm Alda, 34, live & work in Malaysia. Photography was just another thing in the past when I first own a Canon Rebel XS nearly 10 years ago. I am now considering of doing this more as a 'serious enthusiast' when I bought a Canon 5D Mk2 early this year. I bought it with the kit lens 24-105mm f4L. Have just got myself a 190xProB Manfrotto Tripod, inline with the interest I have developed towards photographing scenery and outdoor stuff.

My wishlist would be a 580EXii Speedlite, or maybe 70-200mm f2.8L (IS) that is topping the list. Of course I have some of those basic filters as well.

Looking forward to make more friends from here, and of course assistance from the experienced ones around here too.

    Cheers!

    Hi Alda,

    Welcome to the forums.

We look forward to more questions and hopefully some pictures from the new camera (or the old 'un, for that matter).
From your interests and gear, Colin Southern is going to be quite useful to you.

    Regards,

    Welcome Jaime,

Yes, it's a really good place here - I'm learning all the time myself.

Certainly don't hold back on asking a question, just dive in and use the Post New Thread button in the most appropriate forum (and don't even worry if you post it in the wrong forum, we can easily move it if need be - this goes for everyone)

If you care to post an example picture or two for critique, we may be able to help with what's making the pics pale. What software do you use for post processing (PP) I wonder?

Gotta go now, hope to catch you later,

Hi Jaime, good to have another young person with us! How old are your kids?

So, I guess that I will be spending a lot of time here. And maybe, who knows, even ask some questions. For now, I'm still trying to learn enough to know what questions to ask.

    Jaime
We love questions here - big or small. In fact, lack of questions is our biggest challenge! So ask away - everyone wins that way

    Hi again Peter,

Thanks for the link, now I understand, you've some good pictures there.

If there's anything you'd like to ask, just start a thread.
If you've got any recently shot pics (Lensbaby or normal), there's still around 20 hours left to get them in this week's challenge (at top of People and Pets forum).

    Thanks again,

    Hello all,

Just registered. Stumbled upon this site as I was searching for answers to questions about lens filters. Now have it bookmarked for future use of tutorials. New to DSLR but not SLR. Started with a Minolta SLR 201 decades ago. Recent purchase of a Canon Rebel XSi. Researching accessories now. Hope to use this site to improve my photography and learn a bit about DSLR.

Fantastic to have you with us

What Filter info can we help you with? (I use Singh-Ray and Heliopan filters exclusively) (some of my articles can be found here)

Hi my name is John Cameron and I am a brand new member to Cambridge in Colour (nice to see it spelt with a 'u')
I am an Australian living on the Gold Coast, a lovely part of our country
I live on the Coomera river and indulge my favourite hobby of wild life photography.
As I am close to retirement from my job in environmental engineering, I have set up a website called third planet solutions ( http://www.thirdplanetsolutions.com ) so I can contibute in some small way to the world in general and Australia in particular. I plan to give back to the environment in a few different ways. One way is through sales of my photo art which I will pass on at reasonable cost and give back 5% of all sales to environment organisations.
My website is in its birth stage with only a few of my images posted there but each day I do a bit more. I blieve what I am doing is a way of preserving a photographic record of our environment. I have already spotted and photographed some rare birds and in one case I got very close to a darter and after some hours of me 'staying still' he actually started preening himself and fell asleep just feet away from me. A once in a lifetime shot which can be seen on my website.
I have been taking photos all my life and it was often associated to my work. While I believe I know a fair bit about it no one knows everything and as things change so must we
In fact I am looking forward to sharing comments and advice from other members

    Hi John,

Been here all my life, with the exception of 4 days in Brisbane!

People tell me it's lovely, but I guess I take it for granted somewhat (Brisbane on the other hand was great - clean, bright, and did I mention warm!).

I live in Nelson - top of the South Island. Few pics of the place here if you care to visit: pbase.com/cjsouthern (*caution* - shameless plug alert!)

    Colin,
Wow! I am no where near the calibre of your photos. Checked out your site - they are absolutely beautiful! I htink I may be in over my head here if this is the calibre of photog on this site. My question about filters was the difference between a wide angle filter and a regular filter. I found that answer. So far I've experimented with some Tiffen filters; mostly an 812 warming filter and an enhancing filter. I have a circular polarizer but confess that I do not know how to use it, yet. I have a lot to learn.

    Hi Laura,

Thanks for the compliment, but I think that no matter what you do in life there will always be some who are better, and some who are worse - and what's more, regardless of "level" I'm sure everyone will agree that we're always learning from each other - so just "jump in" with some questions and/or shots

With regard to filters, just post a question in the general photography section, and sit back and watch as the helpful answers come rolling in

    John (3rd planet) and
    Laura (aleta17),

I'd also like to welcome you, from the other side of the planet to Colin!

Colin has done such a good job on the welcome's there's little for me to add other than my personal welcome to you both, it's great to have you join us at CiC.

.. and to re-iterate that if you have any questions, post away, or indeed; same if you have any images to share for critique or challenge entry.

Looking forward to your next posts,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi everyone!

I stumbled upon this website a few months back, when I was trying to learn more about HDR. I quickly realized that this site offered a lot of other interesting stuff too. After reading almost every article available, I decided to check out the forum - where I found yet another great source of information! I joined the forum and posted my first post about HDR - even before introducing myself properly! So that's what I'll do now!

Even though I've enjoyed photography for almost ten years now, I've only recently purchased a DSLR (Canon EOS 450D). I wasn't sure I was a good enough photographer for an SLR before, but during the last few years with my old Ixus compact, I realized I was eager for more control and creative options. And of course I haven't had any regrets!

Besides my photography hobby, I'm currently finishing my Master's degree in Applied Math at the Uni. of Oslo, Norway (that Scandinavian country everyone thinks is a part of Sweden ). I really like to learn new photo techniques and skills, but my main photographic interests are probably landscapes and macro.

    See you in the forum!

    Hi Hannibf,

Thanks for posting this, the only other thing that makes communication a little easier is if we knew your first name.

Ah yes, Norway, that's the one on the left with the "crinkly" coastline.

Good luck with the last bit of your degree, I guess you've a few exams upcoming soon.

Look forward to hearing from you in the forums,

Yes, absolutely! I'm sorry My name is Hannibal (no, that's not a common name in Norway either - although it is common in my family, for some reason ). I tried to find a way to switch my forum display name from my user name "hannibf" to my actual name, but I couldn't find it - any help..?
