Yep. Originating right in the heart of Strathspey - the centre of the universe for whisky distilling.

welcome to CinC Eddy and especially pleased to see someone with 2 bits of equipment I can understand, though I am definitely not a wide angle fan, going off in other direction with 80-400. Show us some pics soon

    Hi Eddy,

Great to have you join us, if you have any questions, post away in the appropriate forum (or anywhere and one of the mods will move it if necessary).

If you have any pictures to share, there's a couple of forums for those too.

    Welcome from ...

Hi from me too Eddy. Great place Brisbane - spent a few days there a few years ago - was very impressed with how clean and bright everything seemed.

    Hi everyone - newby here.

Have watched the CiC site for several years and refer students in my adult education photography classes to it as a way to increase their understanding of digital techniques.

Just discovered the forum feature - look forward to learning more here.

    Hi John,

We're glad to have another active member.

Is teaching photography your 'day job' or a sideline?
Whichever, when you're not teaching, what sort of thinks do you choose to photograph?

    As you're new to the forums, I'll just say three things;
    i) if you have any questions, ask away
ii) if you can contribute to any ongoing threads, jump in, we don't mind a bit
iii) if you have any photos to share, there are challenges or other reasons to post

So, welcome to the forums from ...

Thanks Dave. The teaching thing started nearly 20 years ago as a break from my real job - USAF civil service. Retired nearly 3 years ago so now have more time to travel, plus have become a moderator on a smart car forum (these cars are new to the States so we have some catching up to do!) I had a look at the latest contest and was really taken by the photos showing scenes in Harlem. Would like to see more of those! And that's given me the incentive to photograph near home and hopefully give others an idea of what it's like where we live. It would be great if others did the same as the forum membership seems pretty international.

    Cheers!

    John

    Hi John,

A big welcome from me too

I spent 7 years with the RNZAF here in New Zealand (and flew singles and light twins privately) . Just curious as to what the "Civil Service" of the USAF entails?

Thanks Colin! The Civil Service covers most US government employees, except for those on active duty with the armed forces. Mostly referred to as either military or civilians in the workplace. Quite a few of us did a full career in uniform, retired, and then did a second career in civil service. Total of 39 years for me - that was plenty!

I reckon - 7 was enough for me! Was a very interesting experience none-the-less though. Of course if the RNZAF had had the likes of F18's that I could possibly have scored a ride on then I would have stayed a bit longer!

    Hello everyone,

My name is Rene. I live in Chino Hills, California USA. My handle is my home province in the Philippine Islands. I am very new to photography and at this point all I have are questions. I don't have a DSLR yet, so I got the closest to it that I can afford, the Canon SX10 IS the sibling of the SX1 IS. I was reading the posts here today and I am learning a lot, so I decided to join. More power to you all and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

    Big Smile

    Hi Rene,

Welcome to the CiC Forums - great to have you with us

I'm glad that you only have questions -- that's what we need the most of around here - so lets have em, and here's hoping that we can keep up

    Hi Colin,

Thanks for the warm welcome. You are actually one of the reasons why I decide to join. I was reading the exposure thread today and am learning a lot from you and Dave and the rest of the responders on that thread. I knew then that this is the right place for me. The other places I visited were not as good.

Anyway, I'll do a search first for my question before I ask it in a thread. Trying not to be redundant.

    Big Smile

    Hi Rene,

It's nice to know that were helping

I knew then that this is the right place for me. The other places I visited were not as good.
We hear this all the time ... but never get sick of it

Honestly, I wouldn't even worry too much about that - we enjoy the interaction - everyone's needs are usually slightly different - and of course it gives others a chance to read up on some fresh content (often with a different emphasis) ... plus, we're pretty good at digging up past posts if we think they'd help.

So don't hesitate to just "jump on in!"

Mabuhay Rene, sorry for the Tagalog but I didn't spend enough time in the Visayan region to pick up much language from Cebu. Beautiful part of the country down there, have many fond memories. Favourite song from the region is Matadoro.

    Bill,
Your Tagalog is good. You know that the Visayans had to be taught Tagalog.
Funny that because of the over 100 dialects, we had to be taught our "national language"

Mabuhay and Maraming Salamat. (Greetings & thank you)

    [COLOR="DimGray"]Colin,

This is the first camera ever that I bought for myself. I had some hand-me-down point & shoots. I am just taking pictures now, hoping that with your help, the photography part will come along later. I'm planning on traveling home this July to attend our 40th high school reunion. Imagine that. Hence the new camera. I hope I'd learn how to use it outside of the Auto mode. Planning on learning to shoot in AV mode with in camera flash. Shots will be mostly indoors in ballroom lighting, I think. This is what I plan to set:
Mode: Av; f5.6; ISO 200; WB: tungsten; Flash on. What do you think? Then beach shots the next day. Help!

    EDIT BY MOD:
This question may now be answered in the Compact Digital Cameras forum here

    Thanks

    Big Smile

    Rene
