    Hello everyone.

My name is Bill, 33yrs old from Western Canada. I have always enjoyed photography, but only in the last year has my interest tweeked enough to begin learning the basics and more. A few weeks ago, I finally bought my first SLR (Canon Rebel Xsi) and I love it, I can't seem to put it down. I am still learning tho, apertures and shutter speeds and F stops still confuse the heck out of me, but I will get it, and from what I have seen from browsing the forums, there are a lot of people here who will be very helpful.

I may post some pictures later to see what people think.

I look forward to chatting with everyone

    Cheers

    Hi Rene,

Welcome to the CiC forums, you're already getting into the swing of asking questions, which is good, however, you'll note I copied the question part to another forum where it will be easier to keep track of the answers than here, I hope you don't mind.

When you've got some pictures, do post some for omment if you'd like some constructive ideas for post processing or how to do it better next time.

Look forward to hearing from you again,

    Hi baseballfans4life,

Wow that's a bit of a mouthful, do you have a name we can use?

I see you've found how to start a new thread, so (for the benefit of others) I don't need to say anymore than that in every forum, there is a button top left of the Threads panel for the purpose.

I won't attempt to answer that question as I have no experience, but there are plenty here that do, so I'm sure some advice will be forthcoming in the next few hours.

Anyways, welcome to the forums from ....

Hello, everyone. I'm Joe from Central Texas, USA. I shoot an original Canon Digital Rebel (called 300D in Europe), a 6.3 Mpixel. Lenses include only Canons so far: the kit lens 18-55 that I don't use much, a 10-22 WA zoom that I love to shoot with, a 75-300 that was an inexpensive second lens, and a 400 f/5.6 that I really love. I have a Flashpoint mid-line Carbon tripod, and am anxiously awaiting delivery of a Really Right Stuff BH40-LRII ballhead for it. I do mostly Nature and Landscape photography with a smidgeon of Architectural thrown in. About the only people pics I do are of our new first grandson. My biggest complaint in photography is lack of time to do it. Maybe that'll improve in a couple of years when I retire.

    Hi Joe,

Welcome to CiC - great to have you with us

I'm a big Really Right Stuff fan (I use a number of their brackets and a RRS BH55 Ball Head) - you'll love it - really "top shelf" quality.

I'm also envious of your impending retirement - looking forward to my own, but still at least 10 years away

For lenses I currently have :

    Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS

    and

    Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 IS USM

I have UV and Polarized filters for both lenses.

And I was going to get a tele converter lense, to get a bit more distance without spending lots of money

Hi Everyone, my name is Anchi from Bandung Indonesia. Definitely a newbie looking for advices from everybody. Just starting to like digital photography, hopefully everyone has enough patience with me asking questions and posting newbie qualities pics.

I first stumbled into the cambridgeincolor when googling for RAW and found the best detailed high quality explanation about almost everything photography (at least from a newbie's eyes). Allow me to share my most sincere thanks for this wonderful materials...

I am working in a software company in Indonesia. Love to make friends around the world. I do have to apologize for my English. I am a father of a daughter (who is now mostly having her own activities where parents are not invited.. ).

Be prepared for my first newbie post and kind regards from Bandung Indonesia

Colin, I checked out the galleries on pbase--several very nice images there. Everything I've heard about the natural beauty of New Zealand is borne out by your pics.

    Hi Anchi,

Great to have you with us

Just so you know, the biggest problem with have with questions from "newbies" is ...

... that we don't get enough of them!

So "lets have 'em" - standing by for question #1!

Hello all, Todd here from West Virginia, US. Photography (35mm) has always been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I've just stumbled across this forum out of the blue, I haven’t gotten all that far through what is available here but its already looking like a very helpful place. I look forwards to learning more here.

    Hi Joe,

I felt I ought to say 'welcome' here even though we have conversed in other threads, great to have you join us.

I agree with you on Colin's pics - but don't tell him I said so

    Hi Anchi,

As Colin says, we always welcome questions, even the simpler ones can cement our own understanding of a topic, or extend it if we do a little research to explain things right.

You've come to the right place to make friends around the world, this place is awesome for that.

I look forward to the first question, or a look at a few photos - you're welcome to join the challenges (this goes for all new joiners, there's no "eligibility period" here), or submit for critique and comments.

Welcome from Windsor, England, from ...

    Hi Todd,

It's good to welcome you to the forums, I'm sure you'll get a lot from here.

Tell me, from what you say I am left wondering if you are still film only or have taken the 'digital plunge' yet?
What are you are you currently shooting with? (Camera model + lens(es), I mean)

As for all new joiners; feel free to start a thread with any question, or post some pics, or a link to an online gallery.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi Anchi,

It's really not that stupid a question, CiC doesn't have galleries or albums like some/many other forums. We only use images inline, within the posts in the threads, the one gallery you do see here belongs to the site's creator, Sean (aka McQ).

If you're not sure how to post an image here, follow this link; How do I post images here?

That's the quickest way to get started.

Hi everyone! I'm Sushi, 25 years old from the Philippines. I've had my Nikon d40 for almost a year or so and I have started taking it more seriously just recently.

I am so used to using point and shoot digital cameras. I've been a Canon campact cam user ever since... and it's a huge jump from just looking at the huge LCD to looking through the viewfinder. After going through Nikon's online tutorials, my interest for photography was re-ignited which I am so happy about. Finally, I'll be able to put my d40 to test. I plan to stay true to my d40 until I find out what my forte really is. But I am thinking about getting the AF-S DX VR Zoom. I can use it on my d40, right?

I'm having so much trouble with composition. I am hoping to get some well-meaning advice and tips from you guys around here. I am a youth counselor in a cruise ship by the way. I get to go to different places which is really great. It's really frustrating though that I don't get to give justice to the images that I see from all over the world... so yeah, it's about time for me take photography a bit more seriously and really learn.
