Hi Michael,
Welcome from me too, you seem to know your way around here, so I'll skip the usual stuff and see you in the forums.
But obviously, if you have any questions, just ask
Regards,
Hi Colin. Dave. Thanks for the warm welcome. I won't hesitate to ask questions from you pros in the future, I only plead that you forgive seemingly silly questions whenever they show up!
No worries
Everyone seems to worry about asking silly questions, but I have to say, I've never really seen any. To be honest, I enjoy answering technical questions far more than critiquing most photos -- so the more questions you can ask the more I (and others) can get stuck in to helping to answer them. So go on ... ask a question ...
... MAKE MY DAY!
lol @ you both!
PS: I'll be looking out for your contribution here Dave
Hi,
I managed to post first without introducing myself but I guess I am forgiven given I won.the weekly award for one of the best ever 1st posts!
Anyway, I found this forum via link from another photography forum (POTN) and when I saw it mentioned Cambridge I thought I would join.
I have been in and around Cambridge for the last 13 years - first as an undergraduate and then a post-graduate at the University and now I work at the University Computing Service...
Photography is a hobby - mostly taking pictures of my four children - though I have been asked by friends to take portraits of their children which I have been only too happy to do and most importantly they were very happy with the results, too.
I am relatively new to digital SLRs (only have had a Canon 40D since Christmas 2007) but I have been using digital compacts, various film cameras, as well as digital and film motion cameras for close to thirty years...
Best regards,
Anton

Welcome Anton, and congrats on the award
I guess it's good to have a few Cambridge local members , although we do have a few members from further afield.
Interesting following your link to POTN, I hadn't seen that one before, but as with many others, what gets me is the sheer size of those places with literally dozens of different forums, no one can hope to keep up with what's going on (I suspect). I like that I can keep across pretty much everything here and due to the limited 'width', the 'depth' is greater, if you know what I mean.
It'd be good to see some pics.
Regards,
Hi everyone. My name is Heather. I have been looking around the forum for a few days now. I think I am going to be able to learn a lot from all of you. I love photography and am also very new at it. Recently bought a Canon Rebel XS (not much of a camera for all of you but a very exciting purchase for me).
As I mentioned, I love taking pictures. I am registered to take a digital photography course in the fall. Most pictures I take are of my daughters and other family/friends.
Hi Heather,
Great to have you join us, if you have any questions, just ask away and do share some pics, especially any you'd like our collective assistance with working out how to improve either PP or for shooting 'next time'.
I wouldn't knock the XS, it's probably middle of the road for members; some only have compacts, but still manage decent quality pics.
Good luck with the course in the fall, although I hope we 'speak' again before then.
I have one question; I know most US state codes, but RI?
Welcome from ...
RI= Rhode Island/smallest of all the statesI have one question; I know most US state codes, but RI?

I currently have a rebel XTi which I love and a Canon 75-300 mm lens ("budget" lens ) and a 70-200 f4L (best lens ever).

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to the forums, a guy with a sense of humour huh?
Good, we like them (and gals too)!
I see from other posts (which I happpened to read first) you've worked out how everything works around here and you're already into the swing, great.
Any questions, just ask, as you may have already discovered, the other admin/mod Colin is a Canon 'L only' man, you'll get on swell.
Cheers,
