I am a retired Nurse Practitioner from North Carolina. My new hobby is photography and I am taking digital photography classes and learning how to use my Nikon D7000. As a new shooter, I need all the information I can get and looking at the work of the professionals is helpful. I heard about this site from a social networking site and hope I can learn from the tutorials and your criticism if I ever get the nerve to post a photo!

Although there are people on here who do earn money from photography, none are full-time professionals. We're all enthusiasts just like you who are here because of a passion. And every one of us has been exatly at the same position as you are at the moment so far as knowledge and experienced is concerned. So, please don't ever feel that this is not a forum for you. In fact, CiC owes its existence to the desire to help and support people develop that knowledge and experience.

And one of the best ways of doing that is to ask lots of questions. It's been said on here before that there is no such thing as a dumb question. You can be certain that if you have a question, then there are lots of people out there with the same question, but are afraid to ask it. And as for posting up images ....... Go for it. What you will get if you ask for it, is constructive comment and criticism aimed at helping you get it better next time.

So, a very big welcome. And I hope to see you on the site lots of times.

I think you might be the only medium-format shooter currently active on the site (although I dream!).

Anyway, I hope being part of CiC can support you continued enthusiasm.

Donald, it took a long time of dreaming and a financial windfall to enable me to go medium format. Now of course, I'd like a more modern medium format but that's not likely to happen unless I win Lotto! But I love my H2 and the clarity of the images (due to no anti alaising filter, as DSLRs have) is just terrific. And one advantage of my early gen MF digital H2 is that it is still a square format, newer ones are all rectangular. The squqre format is very challenging.

I hope you find that CiC is a resource that can help you with your desire to increase photographic knowledge and skills. You will find that there are many people on here with a vast array of experience who are very willing to offer support and guidance. All you have to do is ask the questions. And, of course, the tutorials are amongst the most accessible that I think you will anywhere on the net.

Please accept my apologies for not knowing if your Username is your whole name or just your first name, so not knowing how to properly address you. But you are most welcome to CiC.

Whilst you still have your point and shoot, you can still produce high quality images. Remember, it's not the camera that makes the image, it just captures the photograph. It's the person behind the lens that makes the final image.

My name is Troy, I am of course new to these forums.

I started taking photos semi seriously last spring/summer when I purchased a Canon D500. I tend to take pictures of nature since it rarely talks back and sits still most of the time. I am also surrounded by wilderness here in British Columbia. I used to travel all over Canada fighting wildfires but now I am in the office and have time to get out and take pictures. I look forward to sharing my photos and gaining more knowledge and experience here.

You'll find, I hope, that CiC is a lot of fun. Competitions are for fun and not hard-nosed competitiveness. And the whole thing is very much about learning - where lots of people look to support other people in developing their photographic knowledge and skills.

And, as well as entering images in competitions, I hope you'll post up images for comment and take part in the various discussions that go on.

Hi to all,
I am Terrence Jacobs and I live in Pretoria South Africa. My hobbies are photography mainly birds and of course wild life and over the years I have dabbled in all branches of photography and am at my happiest with a camera in my hand in fact my wife will tell that she has never known me without a camera around, although we have only been married for 54 years. My cameras are all Nikons D40X, D50, D200 and D300 along with a fistful of lenses. My other interests are my cars which includes an AC Cobra replica.

I was given the link by 'davidstringer' who is a mate with the same passion as myself for photography.

Hope, as we all do, to learn and help where possible in a friendly atmosphere. I love street photography and any action stuff but only earn money from portraits and the odd 'other'.
Got to an age where I can shoot for myself mainly, which is great.
Dislike 'Gear Snobbery' and miss-information but love learning other peoples ways of shooting.

I shoot a Nikon D7000 & D80. I don't need a 35mm sensor as I very rarely shoot low light.
