Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi,
I'm Jean, originally from Lancashire UK,but now retired, so I spend much of my time in Andalucia,Spain.
I am a relative beginner to photography. My daughter bought me a Canon EOS 450D last year and I have been on a couple of courses to learn how to use it.
I have very quickly decided that photography is a wonderful hobby and I would really welcome some feedback on my attempts from experienced folk so that I can improve in all areas.
I am really looking forward to making contacts on this site.

As it says on the home page of the site, this is a learning community. So, I hope you enjoy it and become a very active member.

    Hi,
I'm Terry. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa, and I've started my own website on which I advertise printing services, more as a hobby than a serious business. I just thoroughly enjoy producing high quality archival prints. It's a challenge, but fun.

    Hi,
I'm David and having been very impressed with most of the CIC images for a while as well as the excellent tutorials I thought it was about I joined the forum. I'm adicted to taking photos though very disapointed with my results. I run a small photo restoration & repair service and have used Photoshop for many years. I'd really like to get a better camera such as a D700 but can't justify the cost until I can take a decent shot with the cheapo one I currently use (Panasonic DMC-FZ18). Having seen some of the members' galleries here I'm know I have a lot to learn and hopefully this is the place to do that.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Good morning everyone

My name is Peter and I live in the New England area ( East coast ) iof the United States of America. This is my second try at this introduction today as I have had a few problems arise doing it. I have been a photographer since 5 or 6 years old ( Wow that is 55+ years ago ) but have been heavily involved the past 25 years. My biggest interest are scenery-landscapes, wildlife and of course family and pets. I have also started to go into a bit of movie making. I have approximately a 75,000 photo catalog at this time. I do not like to use software to correct or enhance my photos. In the near future I will start to use PS5 as I will be starting a photo business up and feel that I may then have a need for correction and enhancements. I feel that getting it correct through the lens is the best way for me.
I have not done much posting but have done the " we are all photographers " project and had several postings in Paris and the Rolex gallery.

My 2 biggest projects the past few years are taking daily photos of the most climbed mountain in the world ( Mount Monadnock and seagulls ).

I am looking forward to joining your group. I will also be gone the next 10 days to work more on my seagull project.

I have attached one of the seagull pictures to be posted in " looking up " project for the group.

    Have a good day Peter

Hello. I am Gary Whitcutt from Camano Island, Washington, USA. My interest in photography began as a 9-year old in 1957 and I've been involved with it ever since. My formal education was in Visual Communications of which photography and print advertising became the primary focus. I am semi-retired now, but keep busy with a home-based photo scanning business and occassional freelance photo assignments. During the reign of film, my favorite cameras were a Canon AE-1 Program and a Yashica Mat 124G - each fitted with various lenses. As film usage declined, I gradually embraced digital technology. My current camera of choise is an Olympus PEN PL-2 which I purchased just recently.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi, as you can see from my profile, my name is Emma and I live in West London, UK.

I've always enjoyed taking photo's, using the 'point & shoot' method. About 18 months ago I treated myself to the Canon Eos 450d and happily take photo's whenever I can, although this seems to mainly be portraits as I feel I have little creativity for anything at the moment.

I've decided it's about time I learn to use my camera properly and not just stick with the auto modes, so started a part time course yesterday.

Looking forward to going through the tutorials and getting tips and hints from the pro's.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi everyone,

I have been exploring creative photography for about a year or so, and find it a lot of fun, in particular the digital editing aspect of it. So far, I have always shot with a simple camera (Panasonic LX5 compact) which I can take anywhere (I'm a bit of a hiker/mountaineer). I feel like I am outgrowing my local camera club which tends to be rather traditional (bit boring :P), and I was looking for further knowledge and help. I stumbled upon this website and I was amazed at the depth and clarity of the tutorials here. I like to learn from helpful critique of my images from more experienced photographers, and hope to share ideas here

    Cheers,
    VJ.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hey everyone,
My name (realy) is Hero and I'm from Leiden in the west of the Netherlands. About two years ago I bought myself a DSLR to have something on hands during my hiking- and cycling trips. My preferences go out to nature photography, namely birds and dragonflies and slowly also venturing into macro territory. Other things you can catch me taking pictures of are pop-events, my girlfriend's hobby doggy sports and of-course her pets (four dogs and a cat).

I stumbled upon this website in my search for a way to shift a few borders between what I can and what is possible with my camera (I'm not realy a fan of PP, although I do use it at times) The trouble is, there's a huge gaping hole between the gut feeling with which I operate my camera and the solid theory that's behind what I most of the time seem to somehow do right. So all in all I hope to learn a bit, and maybe share a bit of my knowledge with you all.

    Hi Hero,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.

Which flavour, sorry, brand/model, of DSLR are you shooting with?

We'd love to see some of your pictures, if you need help, here's a link that says it all; HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?

One of the benefits of hiking is getting to see (and photograph) stuff the less adventurous of us don't.

    Hi Lee,

    That's a nice picture, could almost be moonlit as exposed/processed, although I suspect not (1/1250s @ f/13, iso200).

I also see from the EXIF data you shoot with a Canon 5D Mk.II, plenty of fellow members with those here.

The best way to improve is to submit your own pictures for critique, we even have some advice on how best to do that; HELP THREAD: Guide to posting images for comment

Look forward to seeing/hearing more from you soon Lee.

    Hi Vineeta,

You have some nice pictures in your blog and obviously a knack of being able to get your subjects to relax in front of the camera.

I still love (and use) my first DSLR too

    Hi David,

Yes we're a good place to learn, I started here with a Fuji bridge camera for a couple of years before I could 'justify' spending 10 times the cost on a DSLR and lens (and of course I have doubled that with 3 new lenses since )

Well, the 'adiction' should help because we always say practice, practice, practice makes perfect, but actually, it does also help if you post images for critique here to garner feedback and ideas.
