    hello , my name is bob, i live in west central Fla; i've been recording images for 30+ years, my 1st love is macro, then telephoto captures of critters, recently i've been dabbling in quasi landscape/horizon sky; i've been all through this website & i cannot find the correct place to put my introduction at or how to post my image in the gallery, any help would be greatly appreciated, every link i click on takes me back to a previous page; so i'm posting the url link to my flickr image here, maybe someone can inform me how to post this image into the october gallery;

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi Donald,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. That is the CLEAREST and most concise
description of RAW I've been able to get, so thank you!!

I haven't found RAW on my camera settings, so I think you are right that I don't have it.
    Maybe my next camera, huh?

I must admit that the shutter speed and other settings are a challenge but I
did a little experimentation last night and got a good b & w look when using the standard setting.
Guess it's really trial and error. I was just reading about Circle of Confusion on the site, here.
I adore those kinds of photos with the image up close and the background faded out.

Love the site I wil be on here, often

Hello Bob, and welcome to CiC. Thanks for saying who you are and where you are. You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

As for posting images from Flickr into messages .......

First of all, to get a message window in an existing thread, click on 'Reply' at the bottom of the last message in the thread. That gives you a message window into which to write text and/or insert images.

To insert an image from Flickr ................

You need to right-click on the image in Flickr and select the size you wanted to post at. Then right click on that and 'Save Image location' (wording might be different depending on browser.

    Then ..........

come back to your message and click on the 'Image' icon from the message toolbar (the square one which is, I think, 4th from the right. Then right-click and paste. The image location link will then go in to that window. 'Go' with that and your image should appear in the message.

If that doesn't help and you haven't already done so, then please go to the 'How do I post images ....' thread available from the Help/Rules tab on the Menu bar above.

If you're still struggling at that point, post up a new message and ask for further guidance.

Hi I'm Alan I am retired and have taken up photography as a hobby. I have over many years enjoyed this form of art but wish to explore it further.
I have a Nikon D70 as well as a D300s with a acceptable bunch of lenses. I always shoot in RAW, so I will always process my RAW files afterwards. For that purpose I use mainly Photoshop CS5 but also have Aperture and just of late Lightroom, and am trying to figure out which I like best.
I still want to learn more about photography and digital post processing but may need guidence.

Hello, I'm new to using internet for anything other than email, so I hope I'm doing a new member intro.
I've been taking snapshots for too long and want to improve technical prowess. Loved seeing October photo contest entries, and wanted to add one myself. gotta start somewhere.

Bill - You have successfully done a new member intro. And thank you fro doing so.

Welcome to CiC and it's great to read that you're now ready to move from snapshooter to photographer. CiC is, as it's says at the top of the page, a learning community. So, via this forum where people will be very willing to help, and teh tutorials, I hope you find that this site provides what you need.

    Hi Bill,

Indeed you have, one of the Mini Comps might be a quicker and easier place to start though.

Just find one that says "ACCEPTING ENTRIES ..." (there are two styles; general and monochrome), at the top of the list here, pop a picture in and within a day or so, it will be open for voting and 3 days after that, the winner is obvious once polling is closed.

You can even do the Monthly, or Themed monthly as well.

Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

Hello again, Louise. I know we've already said hello over in the thread that you started, but it's nice to do so again here.

I hope that discussion about DSLRs and Bridge cameras has not only helped, but also shown you that CiC is a place where you will get help and advice. Of course, you don't have to accept the advice, but I'm sure you'll find the knowledge and experience of people on here a great help.

Just remember - keep asking questions. it's one of the best ways to learn.

    Hello All!

I'm very excited to be part of this learning forum. While I've read many of the articles received via email, I've never joined the forum and am looking forward to interacting with you.

Barney (I'm assuming that's your real name) - Great that you've decided you 'sign-up'. You'll now be able to play a much more active part in CiC.

Where are you? You can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it then shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

    Hi everyone!

I came across the web site while looking for some basic photography information and was impressed with what I found. I have been taking occasional family photos for many years but have decided to take it more seriously and this seems a good place to start. I'm based in South Africa but get to travel a bit in England and the Middle East.

    Hello there.

Delighted to hear that you like what you saw here on CiC. And that you're now looking to move up the ladder in terms of photographic endeavours.

Like it says at the top of the page, CiC is a learning community. So, please do ask questions, post images for comment and join in the discussions.

I'm still having difficulty trying to link my flickr image into posting it into a forum reply window; when i rt click on the "large" size image in flickr i get this option: "save picure as" , which i did & i get a jpeg rendering that is being saved in "my pictures" on the pc hdd, this cannot be "pasted" into the reply window; i'm lost now, i have already labored over the thread topic "how do i post images" but it didn't help

I think this is where the problem is starting. You don't want to choose 'save picture as'.

Which Browser are you using? Firefox? Chrome? IE? etc.

In Firefox the option you want from the menu you get after right-clicking is, "Copy Image Location". I think the wording on the other browsers may be slightly different.

Once you've got that bit of it cracked, then we can move on to actually getting the image into your messages.

You do not just paste the link location into the message. What you do is click on the square 'image' icon that's on the message window menu bar. A window pops up. Right-click and 'paste' in that window. And then hit 'OK'.
