    Hi all,

I'm a the adamic, well, original newbie - Computers, internet, digital photography, mobile phone. Phew, the world is changing so fast my head is spinning.

I've been handed down a 3.2 mega pixel Sony Cyber-shot by a daughter who has moved on to the latest whatever and I think I stumbled upon just the place to try to make something of it.

My name is Darnley from the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia pushing past 60 and hoping I can now make digital photography a satisfying past-time.

    Hi Everyone

I've just joined after looking at the site which seemed very interesting. I have had a interest in photograpy for very many years. This has waxed and waned depending upon time and location. Initially 6X6 TLR B&W with home processing before changing to 35mm colour transparency for the last 40 years. Now at last, while still keeping an interest in film I have joined the 21st century and bought a digital Nikon D90 with 18 - 200mm VR. I have soon realised that I have a steep learning curve to climb and am hoping that this site will help with that journey. If at the same time I am able to help others I will be happy to oblige.

I certainly hope so, we don't usually disappoint.

Welcome to the CiC forums and do post any questions you may have.
Answering them is what helps the site develop and for every question asked, probably another 3 (shy) people are grateful.

    Regards,

    Hi George,

You have some great pictures there, thanks for sahring the link.

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have another experienced person around, but don't be shy asking any questions about digital.
I'm sure you can make up for it with help with the things that haven't changed with technology; like composition and lighting, to name but two.

    HI

    Hi

I'm Dave and I found this site while searching for tutorials.

I live in Corby, Northamptonshire, UK.

I bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ28 earlier this year, and I love it! I've had a few digital cameras since 2002. I used to use SLR cameras in my younger days, but I'm enjoying the convenience of digital.

Some of my efforts can be found at www.davejukes.co.uk

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for sharing the website with us; I have to say you seem to demonstrate a consistent eye for a good composition and I suspect you've made a good job on many with PP too.

I guess you're also into good quality audio, judgung by the username

Look forward to answering any questions you may have, or seeing a photo or two in the challenges.

Hello CIC members. My name is Mark Wilson and I have been using digital SLRs in my dental practice since 2003. I have been proficient in dental photography for a long time, but I didn't buy a camera to take outdoors until late 2005, so I am still busy learning a lot about digital photography. Dental photography requires basically a canned approach to imaging and once I mastered the fundamentals I didn't spend much time on photography until I decided to start shooting outside of work. The first lesson I learned was that digital photography can be as simple or as complicated as one wants, so I have joined this forum to learn as much as I can from more advanced photographers.

    Hi Mark,

People can learn a lot here - I do all the time
Mostly by answering questions, or reading what the more experienced people write!

What sort of 'kit' have you got for your 'outside' photography and what do you like shooting?

Anyway, welcome to CiC forums from ...

    Hi all,
joined up here as I'm experimenting some with HDR pictures (but trying to keep them reasonably realistic, I'm more interested in using the process to get more tones into the picture, not to create outlandish effects, but I do like playing too so...).
Just a little intro: I've taken photographs since I was about 7, done the whole developing and printing in my own darkroom for a while, studied photography and on and off over the years been paid to take pictures. Now it's a pasion, and I'm enjoying the new technology (when I can afford it!).

Looking forward to exploring here some, and thanks for reading.

    Hi everyone,

I'm a pretty young guy just really getting into the photography scene seriously. I've been taking pictures for the last 7 years, and was given an old SLR and a lot of lenses to play around with, and i've learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I've actually just purchased a used digital Canon D60 and can't wait to get started with it. I would really appreciate any advice anyone has got for beginning photographers, and I will be happy to post some of my pictures when I get them for critique. Thanks and glad to be a part of the community!

    Hi Paul,

Welcome to CiC forums, your intro is similar to a a fair few people here (except possibly the getting paid for it bit).

Anyway, make the most of us; ask questions, post pics for critique or into the challenges.

    Hi Trey,

We're glad to have you join us.

That's a fairly open question there! especially as you've been using film SLRs a while.
    Been racking my brains to come up with a useful piece of advice for you, how's this;
    1) Take your time; with composing, and working out whether the shutterspeed or aperture is most important for the subject
    2) Shoot RAW
    3) With digital (RAW especially), you will need to post process, no matter how good you get at step 1), there will always be something you can do to make the picture better.

Like all advice, they will be times when you just can't do it, so just do the best you can and above all, enjoy it.

We look forward to seeing some pictures.

If you have any mpre specific questions, just ask away, start a new thread, etc.

    Regards,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi everyone...
After months of reading everyone else's posts (learned heaps, thanks to all contributors), I finally found myself posting a message and realised I'd neglected to introduce myself!
I've been taking photography a bit more seriously than happy snaps since about 1995, when I bought an SLR and joined a photographic society at University. I was shooting mostly B&W at the time, as I was more concerned with shapes and patterns, as well as people, and colour seemed a distraction.
I bought a digital P&S in 2004, the Canon Powershot A75, which I still take with me when space is tight. Much as I have loved Canon products (I use Canon scanners, printers and cameras, and love them all), I went back to Pentax, the brand of my original SLR, for several reasons which I just explained in the dSLR forum, 'how did you pick your camera' thread. These days I'm more interested in colour and especially landscape and macro photography.

    Miguel.

    Hi Everyone:
I'm located in Texas and have been shooting DSLR for about 5 years. I currently have a Canon 5Dmk2 and shoot mostly landscape an a bit of macro...strictly as a hobby.
I look forward to participating in the activities on this site.
