I've been neglecting my duties and not keeping up-to-date with who's posting up a welcome message on here (blame work and the need to sleep!)

So, from David at Post#1039 above, through Wandi, Jiselle, Enrico and Tony, a very warm welcome to each of you. I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.

If you have any questions about the forum , please ask. But also please od join in with your photography questions and comments.

And for those fo you who haven't yet gone in and edited your profile to include your real name and location, have a read of this ..........

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

HI! I'm a beginner. I just enrolled in a digital photography class. The photo gallery had some great shots, very inspiring. I feel very fortunate to have found community of likeminded individuals.

    Hi

My name is Teri and I am just starting to learn digital photography. I found this site by chance while browsing for photo taking tips/advice. What a wonderful forum, especially the tutorials! And, I'm enjoying looking at the photographs/critiques/discussion posted by other photographers. As a birthday present, I got a Canon EOS T1i with a 18-55mm IS lens and a 75-300mm (not IS) telephoto lens. I've also purchased some filters. I've taken some shots that I will eventually post and ask for C&C. I've noticed the critiques on this post are constructive in nature and extremely informative. That's one of the best ways to learn.

Very glad that you feel like that, Debi. I hope CiC can help you with your learning, by inspiring you but also by offering you the chance to assess and analyse your own work.

There is no such thing as a dumb question on CiC. So, if you think about it, ask about it.

By the way, where are you? You can go into 'Edit Profile and put in your location so that it appears alongside your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Miguel (or Mike - I am happy with either although Miguel is my given name) and I am originally from the UK but have lived in the US for the last 10 years. I am a serious amateur nature photographer and would like to take it a step further and become a professional. I joined this community to better my abilities and look forward to actively participating as often as possible.

    Best regards,

Good morning from a rather chilly, foggy Leicestershire in the middle of England.
I consider myself really lucky in as much as I am now retired and are supposed to have lots of time on my hands. If only that was true. I have never been so busy in my life but just not getting paid for it. I recently started a new camera club because I decided that most people get a pretty rae deal from clubs and wanted something different. We are fortunate to have 2 bird-hides and 40 acres of woodland at our venue but the big plus is that every meeting starts with a one hour workshop and that really helps members. Check us out on www.ulverscroftcameraclub.com which is still a work in progress but getting there.

Paul - Thanks for your comments on the site and a warm welcome to you.

CiC is very much aimed at being a learning resource for all those who use it. And to that end, the forum is very much about sharing knowledge and skills, views and opinions. I hope you feel able to join in.

And, as I say to many others - So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Hello CiC! I'm Sophie, from Perth, Australia. I've only recently started taking photos, and I find myself fascinated by colour and patterns- mostly natural subjects. This photo is my favourite of the photos I've taken so far, because it includes all of those elements. I've joined this website to improve, so I love and crave critique. :-)

    Hello,
I'm Ian, from South West England.
Started getting back into photography, and into Digital Photography for the first time, with a 5Mb Panasonic Lumix in December 2005.
I used a Ricoh film SLR with 3 lenses (Tokina ATX 50-250, Vivitar Series 1 28-90, Pentax 135mm) years ago... but haven't had time to devote to it for many years.

Looking forward to having more time soon, I took the plunge and bought a Nikon D7000 last December and have bought a few lenses, read quite a lot and spent some time in a couple of forums since. Gradually learning and - I hope! - getting better pictures!
Read a couple of the articles here and have been browsing the gallery, including the monthly competition winners... some of the images are stunning.
BTW: I haven't found a way of seeing info about the pictures (assuming it's possible), which I'd find helpful - e.g. lens details (FL), format, exposure...

So, like others, I'm here to learn and to enjoy my love of photography and stunning, haunting, amusing and evocative images.
    Ian

    Hi

I am very happy to have enrolled into Cambridge color forum. I live in Bangalore, India with my wife. I am 62 years of age. I have been in the IT field for the past 38 years. I am deeply interested in Information Technology & its applications, Travel, Photography and reading on subjects that are insightful.

Regarding photography, well I have been taking a lot of photos with my Canon Film camera till 2007 when I migrated to using my firts primitive digital camers Olympus FE220. I wanted to be alittle serious in my photography with a better camera. Aftre a lot of consideration I shied away from DSLR to invest in Sony DSC-HX100V. I have been enjoying shooting with this camera for the past four months, learning the various features as well as taking some good videos and photographs related to landscape, birds, flora & fauna.

I see a lot of outstanding photographers producing some excellent photos. My objectibve of joining this forum is to learn more andd improve my photography capabilities to a ecent level and contribute with my work.

Look forward to a strong association.

    Hi Sophie,

Well you have cracked the hard part; getting an image up first time, well done.

For best critique repsonse, please follow the guidelines here; HELP THREAD: Guide to posting images for comment and we should be able to satisfy your cravings

I checked the EXIF and can see you shot the hoverfly with a Pentax K-r at 40mm
Could I ask what lens(es) you're shooting with and what post processing software you have?

Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

    Hi Ian,

Personally, I always put the shooting info with all my pictures because I know it helps others, as do some other members. You can also look at my galleries on PBase, the pictures aren't to the high standard of the monthly competition winners, but they may help.

As you know, there is also EXIF data, which can be viewed under file > properties > advanced for a file on your computer and using certain web browser plug-ins with Firefox. Internet Explorer is a bit more tricky, but I believe it is possible. However, that information is often removed during Post Processing, so sadly probably < 50% of images have it. You can visit this web site with any browser and paste a web image url into the top box and click adjacent button - if the data is there, it will be displayed.

Regarding the forums, any questions, just ask, don't be shy.

    Welcome to the CiC forums,

Hi Shankar (is that your first name?),

Warm welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.

The camera you have now is still pretty well regarded, a good choice and apart from a few issues with small sensors, the cost of buying that type of camera over a DSLR and all the lenses is amazing. My daughter would love a DSLR 'like mine', she's using my old 2006/7 vintage Fuji bridge camera, but something like your Sony DSC-HX100V is far more affordable and has several of the features I enjoy that she's missing in the older camera.

The best way to learn here is ask questions and post images for critique.

    Here are a couple of threads that may be of help to yourself or other recent new members;

PS, if you could Edit your Profile and add your first name and "Bangalore, India" into the Real Name and Location fields, it will save people asking in future

Thanks for the welcome Dave. :-) I'm a complete newby in every sense, using my parent's equipment, so I don't know about all their lenses. I know it was a fairly small auto-focus one, but I don't have the details. XD The software I use is The Gimp. From the reading I've been doing on CiC since I joined and elsewhere I know the dots and stuff in the background (the 'artifacts'?) are because I had the ISO up way too high- 3200, when it probably should have been more like 400 or so.
