Lucy - You are certainly in a glorious part of the world if landscape is something that interests you.

Post processing always starts out as a mystery, but if we take it step-by-step, then it begins to make sense. Do you have a camera that allows you to shoot RAW files as opposed to just ',jpg'? If so, that's what makes the huge difference when it comes to finishing your images.

I hope you enjoy being part of CiC. The one main rule on here is that there is no such thing as a dumb question. So, please never be concerned because you feel that other people might feel you should already know the answer. You can never know the answer until you ask the question. Some people seem to forget that!

Hi, my name is Dave found your site by accident, but i must say it offers much more than the other site i belong to. the tutorials section alone is worth joining. just an amateur photographer myself, but i finally broke down and bought a decent camera finally. (Nikon d7000) kit lenses. mostly only take pics of fam or daughter in band. the low light abilities of the newer cameras sure have advanced.i can finally take pics in an auditorium without flash, with acceptable results.

I'm just a beginner. I often go to Urgup, Cappadocia and walk in the valleys with my photographer friend and take pictures. My favorite place for photography is nature. LOCATION - Put yourself on our members map on Google. But please check the security aspects when you do this CiC Google map

CONDUCT - The general emphasis here is on support and learning. To do that, we often give detailed criticism on shots, where people have asked for it. We always try to do that in a fair, polite, and balanced manner. We also have a lot of fun on here, making humorous comments with one another. But again, it's nearly always done in a friendly manner, softened with the use of smilies.

If you follow the above guidelines you won't go far wrong. We rarely have a problem with things that are said on-line. However, the Admin/Mod group monitor all activity on this site, and any inappropriate comment will be removed or edited. We urge all new members to read the Code of Conduct FAQ.

Hello all! I am Jag from Perth in Western Australia. I have always had some sort of camera since my late childhood, but interest in using it waxed and waned. Most of the shots were of family and gatherings, with some portraits and landscapes. Did my own printing too in the days of black and white, but after decades, decided to try digital. Now have a Canon 60D, with 17-135mm lens, and use PS5 for post processing - so have a lot to learn and this site is so useful, that I decided that I had to join. Thanks for having me.

What've you got?

The secret of mastering it is patience and practice, patience and practice ............. and read the user manual. For some strange reason a lot of people seem to think the user manual is just extra packing material and never bother to study it. Weird. My Canon 40D is now just over 3 years old, I think, and the user manual, battered and worn and with pages falling out, is still a core part of the kit bag.

Your goal has got to be able to operate that camera with your eyes closed, so that everything becomes unconscious action; i.e. when you want to shift the aperture or lock the exposure, your thumb goes exactly to the right button. And that really is all about practice. Once you get to that level of familiarity with the camera, then you can really concentrate on what you're seeing in the viewfinder and give all your attention to composition.

So, I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and that it contributes to your learning and development.

By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Okay, with that dealt with - Hello and welcome. I'm very glad you've decided to sign-up to CiC.

Rules for the new beginner are - There are very few rules here on CiC and ........ there is no such thing as a dumb question on here either. I understand that on some of these fora you get ridiculed if you ask a question people think you should know the answer to (some people are very odd!). That will not happen on here. What I hope is that you find people who are very willing to share knowledge and experience to help you develop your skills and achieve your goals so far as learning is concerned.

By the way, where are you in Portugal? If you say the Douro Valley, then I'm on my way!
