Greetings forum members: retinmt is retired in Montana, close to Yellowstone and the paradise of the North West. My hx is of street images for many years, so pleased to transition to digital, living a quiet life visiting the national forests, national parks and Yellowstone during the summer seasons.
Looking forward to reading and viewing members views and images. This site is a wonderful place for knowledge of the field.

Hi I am Kaylene and I live in Berri South Australia, I have just bought a Nikon D5100 and this has started a new learning curve in photography, I am interested in landscape, and nature photography. Cheers
Hi Guys,
My name is Aniket. I am from India. I am very new to photography. It wont be wrong to say that photography is my new found passion. I know its a lot to learn out there but I guess if you have a liking for that subject or thing you automatically get involved in the learning process. I read about this site in one of the Photography magazine that I read. The name of the magazine is Better Photography. I visited the site and I was very impressed with the kind of Tutorials which are there. For a rookie like me, it is more than I could ask for.
I really hope to learn a lot from this forum and also share my work as I progress. Happy clicking to all.
Hello All,
Jim here from Texas and I am excited about this forum and learning all I can about photography. I just purchase a Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-105 f 4.0 L lens. It is the best camera I have ever owned. I like the outdoors and like to take pictures of flowers, wildlife, landscapes and hopefully some portraits.
Have a great day,
Jim
Hello Kaylene and welcome. I hope you do feel that CiC is the right place to be so far as getting help and support to climb up the learning curve is concerned. There are lots of people on here who will be very willing to share knowledge and experience. All you have to do is ask. And CiC is one of those forums where you can ask questions without having to worry that someone is going to ridicule you or tell you that you should know the answer already. Thankfully, people who behave that way tend to steer clear of the forum.
So, it's great to have you here.
You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.
Aniket - you are quite correct. Passion is the one thing that cannot be taught. It has to come from within the person. And if you have that passion, then learning does become a lot easier.
So, thank you for joining CiC. I hope you enjoy it.
If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Thank you Donald for the warm welcome
Hi my name is Thyag and Iam from India.I was born and brought up in Bangalore.Though I have not done any professional courses on photography Iam keen to love to take photos every miniute irrespective of the place, object and light.
Hi everyone.
Just joined the CiC forum and am keen to join in with all the banter, and also improve my photography.
My name is George and I am a Retired Master Mariner living on a small holding in Tenbury Wells (Worc's) with my wife, horse and two cats. We have five grown up children and eight grandchildren stretching from Redditch in Worcestershire to Reading in Berkshire. So you can see, family is very important to us, which is why I am keen to capture our story with a camera.
Just bought my first DSLR last year and am very keen to capture wildlife in my garden as well as family holiday shots. I am finding there is so much to learn about photography that I am getting confused by all the information out there. If there was a 'Step-by-Step' Guide that concentrated on bringing beginners up to the standard of a good photographer, then I would be happy. Where do you start? My aim is to take sharp photographs.
Hoping to start adding those photo's when they start to be good ones.
Hello Thyag and a very warm welcome to CiC.
I hope what you find on this forum is a that there are a whole lot of people who share your passion for photography and who are very willing to support others through the sharing of knowledge and experience. So, if you have questions to do with your learning, please do ask them. Someone will always be able to offer an opinion and.or an answer.
If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Hi there, I am Bryant from Daphne, Alabama, on the Alabama Gulf coast. I'm a southern boy, born in Jacksonville, Florida, raised in Northport, Alabama, to school in Tennessee and now living in paradise. I've been an avid photographer for years and have developed a special interest in nature. Woodlands and water seem to be most interesting to me. I've been known to pull of the road and climb down an embankment to snap images of an attractive stream or creek. I do use PS but have yet to master all the bells and whistles. I look forward to learning much from the collective wisdom here.
I live in Ankara Türkiye. I'm retired head cameraman.Trying to train beginners.
I'm still a fairly new member and have a question about uploading a photo to my profile. I thought the New Member section would be the most appropriate place to post this.
I unsuccessfully made a couple attempts at uploading a photo to my profile. My guess is that the file size was too large. What format should I be using for profile photos? Thanks..
Best regards,
Jeff
Jeff -
You need to rescale images down to 80 pixels on the longest side.
The other thing to remember is that Profile Pic and Avatar are two different things. So, if you want an image to appear alongside all your posts here on the forum, you need to 'Edit Avatar'. For an image (which could be the same one) on your profile page, you need 'Edit Profile Pic'.
Hello everyone!
I'm new to the forum! My husband bought me a Canon T2i for my birthday and I am just getting used to it. It is a big step up from what I am used to but I am loving the challenge and the new camera. I am looking forward to meeting new people on here and learning what I can!
Thanks!
Marie
You lucky person. Could you tell him you have a new friend in Scotland and if he wants buy more presents .........!
Welcome Marie. Great to have you here as part of CiC.
The secret about learning is taking it one step at a time. Don't try to learn it all at once. The tutorials on here at CiC seem to amongst the most highly regarded on the web. In addition to that, you've now got a whole lot of knowledge and experience at your disposal through this forum. Please do use it by asking questions. There's no such thing as a dumb question on CiC.
