Hi, folks. My name is Kris and I am completely new to Photography. Well, apart from owning a cheap compact. I have recently purchased a Nikon D3100 that came with a few lenses and have aquired some filters based on reading the instructinal pages on here. I am very much looking forward to learning all about different techniques and styles as well as uploading images here for constructive critisism.

Congratulations on the purchase. I hope that this is the start of a long association with photography and with CiC. The site (tutorials and forum) are aimed at being a learning resource and, remember, everyone on here was once at the stage of knowledge and skill that you are at right at the moment. It is all about learning.

I've been on this about a week or so. I just noticed this thread so I decided to introduce myself. I'm from New York and have been shooting with an SLR since the film days. I knew the basics then but didn't experiment much due to the cost. My first camera was a pentax which I lost but I loved very much. I bought another Pentax as a replacement and after a few years I jumped to Canon and I've been a loyal customer since. Most of my images have been of friends and family, vacations shots and animals at the zoo. My interest peeked about 2 years ago as a way to relieve stress at work. And now I've been on rampage shooting almost anything and learning as much as I can!

My main interest is landscapes and animals but I've been doing portrait shots lately to expand my knowledge. I find portrait shots most exhausting as depending on compliction, I find myself improving on them post-processing. I've learned not to take as sharp of a photo as a response.

I take inspirations from others to improve my skills and find CIC a place for this. I also enjoy the forums as people respond kindly. I've seen on other sites where people feel fine to respond in a not so pleasant manner. I hope that this does not change as more people sign-on.

Hi all. NY here. I am a beginning photographer. I first was introduced to photography when I took a class a few years ago. It was my most favorite out of all of the classes I was taking. I took plenty of photos for a few months and then put the camera down for a bit. Then went on a vacation a few months ago and dusted it off. Some of the photos I took were amazing. It's been by my side every since. Someone even proposed that I shoot their wedding. I couldn't believe it. I never did but just thinking that someone would actually pay me for taking pictures changed how I viewed photography.

I own a used canon Rebel XT that I purchased for the class. It was my first digital SLR, and I think it's a great beginners camera. A few months ago I upgraded from the kit lens and purchased a 50mm/1.8 prime lens. Yesterday I purchased a 25-250mm telephoto lens. I think that's enough for now. I need get better with what I have at this point.

I am not sure what my focal point is in photography. I am not 100% sure where my interest lies. So far I am just taking pictures of whatever I see that I think will look good in the camera, and I take pics of friends. I'm here just to learn more about the basics, to get inspiration, and to learn how to have more fun with this new found hobby. Luckily I am in NY where there are a gazillion opportunities to take some great photos. I just need to better develop an eye for it.

I am also uploading a test pic to see how this forum works.....
