Hello Di. Welcome to CiC. The thing to remember is - Everyone else on here was once as inexperienced as you are now. It's all about learning and practice, practice, practice.
CiC is the sort of forum and website where you will get as much help and support as you want to improve your knowledge and skills. There is no such thing as a dumb question on here. Well there is - It's the one you don't ask becuase you think it is too dumb to do so. That way, you never learn.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Hello all, Glen here from Northwestern NJ. Have been into photography for years but mostly with point and shoot. A few years ago took a photography corse in college and used a Cannon powershot. Now my 14 year old daughter is taking photography as a freshman in high school so I am getting back into it and we bought a Cannon 60D with the 18-200 lens. I was hoping to understand all the cameras functions in greater detail when I stumbled onto this site. Seems like a great place to learn so here I am. I do a lot of hiking so I am always coming across beautiful landscapes as well as wild life.
Glen - I certainly hope that you do find CiC is a resource that can help you learn as well as allows you to build up online links with other enthusiasts. Lots of people on here are always ready and willing to share their considerable knowledge and experience.

Hi guys my name is Chris im 27 from Liverpool. I have had a distant interest in photography for years but never really had the spare funds to purchase a Dslr. Thankfully i have taken the plunge and bought a Nikon D3100. Ive been watching alot of youtube videos on exposures/apertures etc and have learnt alot. I hope to learn alot more on this great forum, hopefully speak to you guys soon
Evening all. My name is Stephen and I'm from Liverpool. I have been using a Canon EOS450 for about 4 years now and have gradually been growing my knowledge and ability purely through trying things out. With a busy family and working life I don't get the time to study the subject and get out and about as I would ideally like to. I came across this site while I was researching photo processing software (Lightroom 4 vs Elements 11) and also trying to get a grip on RAW vs TIFF vs JPEG. I can't believe I've not come across CiC before. I'm looking forward to getting to know people on here while I continue to grow my photography knowledge. Cheers!
Hi Stephen and welcome. I'm just a new member here, but I've already learned a heck of a lot - the challenge now is putting what I have learned into practice. This really is a supportive and welcoming place.
Dave
Good on you Chris. Congratulations. Now that you've got the bug, I hope you'll enjoy being part of CiC.
By the way - If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
Hallo,

I am a new comer in DSLR world. Recently I use Nikon D3100 as my camera and two lens kit Nikkor 18-55 mm (non VR) and Nikkor 55-200 mm (non VR). Starting use the camera just since a few weeks ago, so I think I am really need help and guidance from the member of this Forum...
Hello Bodhi and thank you for choosing to join CiC. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.
I hope you will find that this is very much an online resource committed to helping and supporting people to learn - to acquire knowledge and skills. One of the major strengths of the site is, I think, that the people involved remember that they all had to learn as well. So please do join in discussion, post up images and enjoy being part of this online community.
By the way, you don't tell us where you are. If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
Hi I'm new here, well as a member that is. I have historically browsed the excellent tutorials and today I decided to become a member. My main photographic interest is Land/seascapes. I hope that I can continue my photographic learning by being active as a forum member. Thanks for having me
Hello everyone,
I normally work with moving pictures as an editor/asst editor and I'm just getting into appreciating the stills aspect of photography. I received a Canon T4i as a gift from my wife a few months ago which I used to photograph my brother's cycling event. I truly enjoyed that exeprience so when an opportunity arose for me to exchange my camera to a faster 7D (with a few hundreds$ out of pocket) I quickly jumped on it and have been steadily using/learning that camera ever since.
I'm interested in sports photography and will eventually take on HDR once I feel confident about my basic photographic skills. I have been a huge fan of this site for a while now (even before I started learning photography) when it was introduced to me a few years ago by a photographer friend of mine.
Anyway, I am fully immersing myself into this craft so I hope to be able to join in on the photo contests soon.
Hi Canonshooter,
Welcome to CiC.
One of our Mods will be along soon to welcome you and I know will ask if you would like to tell us roughly where you are in the world. If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location & name, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
I look forward to seeing your pictures.
Kind regards
John
Thanks for the welcome John
Hi there
I am from Portugal, and have recently restarted my photographic hobby.
I have done some 35 mm film photography, and i also processed the films and printed the photos.
But al this some 15 years ago.
As i am now retired and still love this art,i bought a digital camera, and off i went.
I have been using my old lenses,a Nikon zoom 35-70 AF and Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 with macro.
I have learned that my Sigma got fungus,so i have to send it to repair.
But with all this talking, still havn't said what camera i bought.
So,i had previously a Nikon F-801 s,and now i found myself buying a Nikon D90,even if it is in the end of it's production days,i think is a good camera to restart.
So,as i told you,i am from Portugal, and even if my country as a lot to photograph,in terms of religious at,sea sights, nice people, good food and country sites,i really love the most to capture that moment in people face that really shows those feellings inside.
I also love potraiture, but it is not easy to do it around here, and the budget is tight to pay for models.
So,i think, for an introduction,i have talked enough, now i go to school around here,to try to learn how to master digital photo.
Believe me,even if the concepts are the same, the findings are not.
Thank you for the welcome message and very good and informative website with lots of technical information. More of me here: Digital Studio
