    Hi Phil,

Sounds like some time in Wales is called for (assuming it is the Wales I know!), I know we English give it stick, but it's never THAT cold there!

Welcome to the CiC forums from me to, and as Colin says; ask if you have any questions, or dive into the Monthly Challenge or a Mini Competition.

Or, and don't be shy, with a background like that, you can no doubt answer questions for us

    Best regards,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi Tanya,

If you have any questions, just ask away, there is a lot of LR and CS4 experience here (although not me personally) and I'm Nikon, so I'm rapidly talking myself out of a job here

However, I can do critiques (well I think so anyway), so if you have any images for comment, make a new thread in the appropiate forum and I'll "help out".

It only remains for me to say, in time honoured fashion; welcome to the CiC forums from (Dad of 3, ranging from 22 to 17) ...

    Hi Tanya,

    Welcome to CiC

I see that you've signed your name "Tanya" and yet chosen "Tonya" as a username ... if that's a typo and you'd like Tanya as a username (makes it easier for us too) - then just say the word and I'll change it for you (only takes a few seconds, and also changes all previous posts - so quite painless )

Quite a leap of faith that you've taken with all that gear - I'd STRONGLY suggest that you invest in just a few books that'll help you get the most out of them ...

Scott Kelby's Digital Photography Boxed Set

^^^ These will help with basic and intermediate camera operation.

The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers

^^^ THis will help with CS4

    The Adobe Lightroom 2 Book

^^^ This will help with Lightroom II

And of course, please don't hesitate to ask questions here - it's what we're here for!

For those of you with long memories, I am back!

Perhaps not as regularly as I was, but I shall certainly be keeping an eye on things and helping out where I can and when asked.

    Hi Ian,

I used to have a long memory, I just can't remember where I left it

To complete the trilogy; welcome back from me too.
I had already been noticing your presence and was wondering how to say Hi when I saw this post.
So, a D3000 in the family soon, good job.

    Cheers,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi to all forum members.

I'm "RobO" and have had the technical pages from this web-site as a "favourite" for a while and find them very informative and now see that the Forum is created and looks good, so thought I'd join.

Both my wife & I share the same interests, largely. These naturally include photography and we are Nikon DSLR users, but still have analogue cameras.

I look forward to contributing to the group and receiving C&C of images I post. I'm hoping to improve my photography so please make the C&C's good & honest. After all what pleases one persons eye may not interest another. Equally so, thinking creatively may mean some of the generally accepted "rules" are broken - some will like it some will not. Please don't hold back with your comments!

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

You are lucky indeed to have a local (very) photo-buddy
I was up your way earlier this year, I did an overnight stop in Lincoln itself and walked up to the cathedral in the evening - very friendly people I found - pleasant memories.

Sure, we'll be glad to pass on some honest, but constructive, comments on your photos.

There are various bits of guidance on how to (if you're unsure) on the top part of this page:
Links to Useful & Informative Threads
If anything isn't covered there, just ask.

What sort of subjects do you (two) shoot?

I think it only remains for me to say; welcome to the CiC forums from ...

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi Dave

Many thanks for your kind welcoming remarks and help.

Sometimes having one so close can cause friction, especially when one is photographing and the other is carrying out "other duties" and maybe things aren't quite going to plan photographically! - Generally it's excellent though and most enjoyable.

What do we shoot - if I have a camera to hand and it looks good I'll have a go, however I think it's fairly safe to say that the majority of our shots are motorsport - stage rallies and club navigational rallies [I contribute to various magazines and web sites]. We also enjoy walks and wildlife and usually take cameras with us. This year we were asked to photo the weddings for 2 couples but were badly let down with the quality of Photobooks.

I'm pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Lincoln, it has a lot of history and the Cathedral is beautiful, but it's many years since I went. We live in the flatlands in the South of the county [Lincs/Cambs/Norfolk border] - big skys etc.

Here's a shot taken a few yards up the road earlier this year -

Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (archive)

I lived in towns for most of my life and in 2001 moved to the country - not far away though.

We thoroughly enjoy photography, but after a motorsport "shoot" there's often a lot of work to do - one camera may shoot 700 - 1500 images all of which need sorting .

That may account for certain apparent absences from the web from time to time.

I hope that's not too much waffle from me. Please DO feel free to comment on any of our shots we want to learn.

    Thanks again

    Rob.

    Howdy,
I've been a fan of the web site for years now and sent many here to learn from the excellent tutorials. When I noticed a forum, had to join.

Photography started for me when I was a kid and my parents gave me a Kodak Ektar 1 camera. By the time I was in sixth grade I borrowed my dad's WWII era Voightlander and started checking out photography books from the library. Took my first formal classes in high school and photographed for the yearbook staff.

I was a photo major in college getting a degree in photographic technologies. Afterwards, I went to work shooting commercial with a Leaf DCB. Was a great job but the pay was low and the web was about to boom. I taught myself HTML and landed a job as a web designer in '95. Still working in web design today.

So as photography goes, I'm amateur or semi-pro as I shoot a paid job every now and then. I still enjoy it and expect I always will. I hope to open a studio some day in my next career.

I'm also a husband and father. Here is a photo of my daughter from our most recent shoot.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi All
Been lurking around the forum and web site for a while now and thought I'd join and say hi. I really do appreciate the effort that's gone into creating this site - the tutorials are superb. I most like the extreme technical detail that is included in them!

Another thing that has struck me after trawling through the old forum threads is just how friendly this place is and how knowledgeable the posters are.

Anyway, I've had a Nikon D40 for a while and have thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures of the family and have decided to try and learn more so I can hopefully develop (excuse the pun) my abilities. And with a fairly major birthday coming up I am currently investigating replacing my beloved D40 with maybe a D300s or a Canon 7D so with the more technical camera I might be asking lots of questions of you guys!

    Regards
    Pete

    Hi Rob,

    My pleasure.

    No, not too much

In terms of commenting on images, it's probably best to start a new thread in the appropriate forum and link between one and four pictures inline (just as with the shot above).

However, I did have a sneaky peek at your website, you have quite a prolific mixture there split amongst all those pages!

The rally/track pics isn't something I have tried yet myself, but is on my 'to do sometime' list.

Looking forward to the next post,

Hi Everyone. My name is Gary Pope, and I am just joining this site. It was introduced to me by reference to some excellent technical information on Histograms. I am a retired Architect and have been getting serious about my old hobby of photography again, now that I have the time.

I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee now but am a 3rd generation Californian by birth. I worked in San Francisco for almost 40 years. My photography experience goes back to the '60's with TLR's and 35 mm cameras. Digital photography and editing are my current passions. I am here to seek and give advice.
