Hi everyone my name is Mary from ny usa. I just found this sight and it has a lot of great advice. I am completely new to photography and spending a lot of time on line to learn. I just purchased a Canon T2i and trying to learn how to take pictures of my grandchildren. Once I figure out how to post pictures I will look forward to advice. I did go on the help forum but still can not figure it out. I am sure I will get it sooner or later.
See you around the forum
Mary
Hi Mary,
Welcome to CiC, thank you for joining.
This is a great site to learn and the tutorials will be a great help to you; I'm sure.
If you look at the link below it shows you how to post your pictures onto the site, I hope it is of some help.
I look forward to seeing your work and talking to you further over the coming weeks.
Here the link related to posting your pictures.... HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?
Kind regards
John
Hello everyone, I'm Maurice. Retired and well into my seventies now, I've recently decided to revive my interest in portraiture in the style I was taught in the 1950s as an apprentice photographer and college student. There are some problems to solve, particularly with the lighting and, in fact, I've decided to make the lights myself to suit smaller rooms. My printer, a Canon Pro9000 II, I've discovered, is not much good at making monochrome prints which I need to evoke the flavour of the age. I've looked at duotones on PhotoShop. Maybe it will help but it's hard work. Just received a Lyson Ink kit. Maybe that will help too. Yet to be fitted though. Any thoughts on this monochrome problem with the Canon printer would be appreciated. I'm also looking at the latest Sigma "portrait" lens 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM. Any one used it yet?
Guess I'm something of a rebel. I own two Sigma dSLR cameras :-)
When the portraits begin to role, I'll post some.
In parting, for the moment I hope, let me ask you what is the most important and relatively recent innovation for the ancient photographer? For shaking hands it has to be image stabilisation.
Best wishes all

Hi All,
Greetings from South Africa, currently not so sunny, but the rain is indeed welcome.
I currently have a Pentax Z-20 35mm SLR and some lenses (Pentax FA SMC 4.5-5.6 100-300mm, Pentax-F SMC 4.7-5.6 80-200mm, Sigma Aspherical 3.5-5.6 28-80mm MACRO, Imado 2x Auto Teleconvertor). I am finally getting a DSLR, a Pentax K30 w/DA 18-135mm ED AL (IF) DC WR Zoom Lens. I wanted a WR setup to give me some flexibility in less than ideal weather conditions. There are a number of accessories and lenses I want to add here as finances allow, to complete my setup. I am primarily, but not exclusively, interested in nature/wildlife and landscape photography.
I am definitely going to make use of the tutorials here, esp. the ones specific to digital like PP workflow and the likes.

Old fiddles play the best tunes, Maurice!

Hi All, I am Richard from Sunny Bury St Edmunds! I hadn't been doing any photography other than point and click, until my good lady got me a Coolpix L120 in 2011... then seriously got the bug I have just got myself a Nikon D5100 (only with kit lenses at the moment) but now on quest to learn and improve.
I love Macros / Close-up and Portraits, although to be honest i will photograph anything as my ever filling HDD can attest too
I use Lightroom 4 for any post work.
Cheers
Rich

Hiya
I found this site whilst trying to research lenses. I am hankering after a fisheye and have read so many reviews that I m now utterly confused! So if anyone out there wants to confuse me even more about which lens I should go for - then opinions welcome. I mostly take macro photography but fancy a radical change!
Hello and a very warm welcome to CiC. I'm very glad you found us and I hope you find enough on here to hold your interest and make you want to stay involved in the forum.
There are a couple of things you should do to get the sort of information you need:
- Type 'Fisheye' into the search window up near the top left of the page
- Post up a specific question in the Digital Cameras & Equipment section of the forum. More people are likely to see it than will notice it here.
By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Hello Everybody,
my name is Giacomo, 46 years old, and I'm from Italy.
Travel and Landscape photography was the great passion of my youth, but later lost in the mess of my life... I'm quite new in Digital Photography and I still have to learn a lot, but most of all I need independent, detached judgements and criticisms of my works.
I have a Canon EOS 550D (Rebel T2i in USA) with 10-24mm and 18-200mm Tamron lenses
I hope to find the time to actively take part to CiC community.
Kind regards
