Hi, my name is Billy,a retired US Marine and sales manager, carried a camera since I was 12 (now 77) never got much beyond the point and shoot stage, have some time now and would like to get more serious. just bought a Nikon D3100 DSLR (my first DSLR) with the 18-55 lens, looking for a tripod now (maybe a Slik U-212w?) look forward to contributing here and meeting everyone. I am located in New Braunfels, TX

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. My name is Keith Burr. I have been photographing for about 40 years. Some of that time raising children so not much photography. I have recently, in the past 5 years gone digital. I have a Cannon Rebel XSI with a couple of zoom lenses, a wide angle and 40 mm to 120 mm. I am always looking for new ideas or ways of shooting. Thanks for this place.

i saw this site when i searched google to read about photography and i found myself its quite informative,thanks for that.
i just bought my first cam on nov 2012,i dont hav source to afford a dslr but whats in that when i love my sony h100 point n shoot ,if i dont take my camera out of the bag , i cant sleep that night hihi

I am Earl, living in Washington State, USA. The best job I ever had was reporter/photographer for a small town weekly newspaper as a young man. I have taken pictures since a boy, but discovered the magic of photography in chemistry class in high school when my teacher had us each bring a negative to class to explore the photo-chemical process. I was hooked the moment I saw an image slowly appear on the blank piece of photo paper that I had exposed at the window. I stopped photography as a hobby to marry and raise a family, but now I have retired and rediscovered the joy of photography, and the wonders of the digital darkroom.
