I was trying to add a comment to this - but ran out of buttons, it seems.

A query for McQ - would it be possible to show the 'local time' for all posters in the left hand box?

    1. Hit the 'Reply With Quote button at the bottom of the post to which you wish to reply
    2. If you wish, do a delete/edut to just keep the part of the quote that you wish to refer to in your reply, such as I have done above.
    3. Click your mouse below the [/ quote] tag and start typing.

    Job done!

    Got it - I hope.
Also had a go at adding picture - after working out that it is the avatar which was needed. Done them both the same, mainly because I'll forget who I am if I do them different.
    Many thanks Donald
Now to work out how to upload photos and create albums (and I only stumbled into here 3 days ago looking for a tutorial)
    regards

Hello Leslie and welcome. Thank you for joining CiC.

You don't say where you are. If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.

I hope you quickly find out that there is no such thing as a dumb question on here and (looking at your first main post in the People & Pets section, no-one ever does nor should they think they do, sound like a fool on here. If you don't ask questions, you don't learn. Plain and simple!

Hello all, my name is Naff (Nathan), and I live in Gwynedd, North Wales. I recently bought a s/h Canon Body and a selection of lenses and am intending to try recording my birding trips. Hopefully I,ll learn enough to take some decent photos with what I have before buying newer/ better kit. I have used 35mm slr cameras but that was years ago!! My largest lenses are 300mm Canon and Sigma teles which will do for the Blue Tits and Siskins in the garden but until I can photograph them correctly the 400/500mm lenses will have to wait.

    Naff.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hi everybody
New to this forum but not to photography I was introduced to this forum by one of the excelent tutorials here. I took a short look at some of the pictures here, and their quality made me even more interested. I probably owe my interest in photography to my late father, which, for a short period in his life made his living on it. That was before I was born, but he kept his 1935 model leica as his camera for many years. At the age of 12 I had my first camera, and this experience and my interest in the technology of photography made me expertise in the mechanical design of optical instruments in due days.
At the moment I hold a 7D canon camera with a rather medium quality large zoom range Tamron lens. There are certainly better and sharper lenses, but I find the agility of this lens to be a great advantage for me, and I truly believe that the most important lens a photographer might have is the lens of his eye, not the one on his camera.

My name is Judy and I live in the beautiful KwaZulu Natal Midlands of South Africa. I am an amateur enthusiast and I use a Pentax K5 II and after reading some reviews, have flashed out and ordered a Pentax K3. I have a number of lenses ranging from wide angle and macro down to a 500 telephoto (which does not see much use). Having a huge amount of fun with photography but am aware of my limitations and am really keen to learn and to share.

Hello all, my name is Naff (Nathan)
Hello Nathan (or Naff) and a warm welcome to CiC - glad you have decided to join us. There are some excellent bird photographers in this community (I enjoy it, but count myself around League 1 ). I hope you will share some images with us, and if you want any hints and tips please ask in the forums.

    Regards,

    Dave

New to this forum but not to photography
Hell Adam and welcome to CiC - pleased that you have decided to join us. There is every level of experience here, so I hope you will be able to share yours. Of course, we are all learning all the time: sharing and learning is is what CiC is all about.

Is there a particular kind of photography that interests you - I hope you will share some images before long. I don't think we have many members from Israel.

Just on a personal note, I did look up where Modiin is. My wife is a Sabra, but from Hadera, which I think is a way north of you.

    Regards,

    Dave

Hi Judy, and welcome. I hope you enjoy being a member of the community here. You certainly live in a beautiful country. I had the good fortune to do a tour there some years ago, and I well remember Royal Natal park, along with many other places. I hope that you will be posting some images soon and joining in with this friendly and helpful place.

    Regards,

    Dave

Hi. My name is Jim and I live in Savannah, Georgia, USA. I'm new to photography and look forward to reading the guides/tutorials and interacting with the members to educate myself. I've been a real estate lawyer for 38 years with pretty much no hobbies but am cutting back on work time to try a few other things. My brother has been a hobbyist photographer for many years and I hope this is something we can do together. I bought a Pentax K-3 and their 55-300 water resistant lens to start my new hobby and I think it's going to be fun.

    I certainly hope so Jim.

Thank you for joining the CiC forum and I hope you find informative and helpful, as well as enjoyable. This is very much a learning resource in which people are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, etc., without some of the more obnoxious levels of exchange that seems to take place on some other forums.

You'll find that the learning curve will be as steep as you wish to make it. But if that is taken on in a spirit of adventure and discovery, then I hope you will indeed enjoy it enormously.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hello and thank you for welcoming me. I am not too sure what to discuss or say at this point. My son and I are trying to get our feet wet in showing our photographs here in the ST Louis, MO area. I am also learning my way around a new computer that a friend custom built for me, designed for my photo editing and to start learning and using LR4. With cold weather about here I will also concentrate on doing my watercolor. I happened upon this site yesterday and was impressed with the tutorials, and when I saw the forum I thought this is a good way to get some feedback in the coming days. Maybe as I read the different topics, I will know questions to ask. Again, thank you. Esther

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi everyone! Glad to join this forum. I am Lyne from Gatineau, Québec, Canada. My main hobby is making glass beads to include in jewelry pièces but I also need to take great pictures of my creations to sell them. So ... I treated myself to a brand new camera this weekend; a Nikon D7000.

Many years ago, when I graduated from University, my parents gave me a Nikon EM as a graduation gift. I still have this camera and a Vivitar 75-205mm (F3.8) macro lense. It does fit on my new Nikon but I am wondering if it is ok to use it (manually of course) without damaging anything my new D7000.

Thanks for any advice you may give me.

    Lyne
