Hi,
I'm Art and new to digital SLR photography. Over the years I've used a Yashica Lynx 5000, Yashica Electro 35 and a Nikon FG, all of which I still have, but almost never use. After a few point and shoots both 35mm and digital I was asked to do photo shoots for a local newspaper. Believe me I'm no expert, I toyed around the edges with my manual 35mms but never considered myself a photographer. The first few jobs I used my wife's Nikon Coolpix L110, then made the plunge (for me) and bought an Nikon D3100. Wow! I have so much to learn. Love the camera and have had a lot of fun using the different modes but want to get a handle on f/stops, white balance, composition and all the rest. So when I ran across this site I knew I found a place where it all comes together. I know I can learn the basics and move on from there.

Hi Art,
I totally get it when you say you have so much to learn. I've had my Canon EOS 60D for two days and feel like I need a college class to learn all of its features. I love photography though and I am anxious to start this new adventure as I'm sure you are. Let the games begin.

Hi to all. I am Huw from the Isle of Wight. Currently I use a Canon 400D with the lens it came with (25-80, I think) and a Sigma 50-500 about which more anon. I am grateful for the advent of digital photography, still being a point and shooter at heart. I am becoming more serious about what I am trying to do so all advice is well received. As yet I have not done any studio work, preferring to work outdoors.

By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

I hope you enjoy being part of the forum and find it useful in terms of improving your photographic knowledge and skills.

Hello! I'm Rae, a very beginner photographer. My husband bought me my first DSLR camera 2 years ago, a Canon Rebel T3. I absolutely love it, but I'm now ready to stop relying so heavily on the Basic modes and learn how to use my Creative modes. I'm currently obsessed with nature photography. I stumbled across this site just a few days ago, and can't seem to get off of it. I'm currently learning about the Exposure Triangle, and am tickled that it actually makes sense to me without being taught in a classroom. Thank you for all the helpful and valuable information!

Hello Rae, and a very warm welcome to CiC. If you want to learn about photography in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, this is the place to be. There are some fantastic photographers here, and they are always ready to offer help and advice.

Congratulations on tackling the Exposure Triangle. You'd be amazed how many folks start wandering round their camera menus without understanding the basics, and then wondering why they get lost. As you've probably seen, there are lots of other excellent tutorials there, too.

When you feel ready, do post some images in the forums - I guess it will most likely be in "Nature and Architecture" for you. There is a sticky thread in the Community Lounge with hints and tips on posting.

As it happens I am vacationing in your part of the world next spring. Well, we are starting in DC and heading down the Blue Ridge to the Great Smokies, so I'll certainly be taking some pictures.

I'm getting back into photography after a long absence. My wife gave me a DSLR for Christmas last year. Since then I've take mostly wildlife and landscapes. (Kind of hard not to with where I live.) I'd love to take more pictures of people, but I've just never managed to capture nice images of people.

For me photography is a hobby and it's not likely to ever be anything else. That said, I'd still like to get nice images.

I have an older Nikon model camera that I need to get fixed when I can afford it but for now I'm using a Nikon Coolpix P520. It has it's limitations but boy the zoom is great in it's price class. I understand this is not the place to post my photos but am going to take advantage of the one photo rule to show my style. Now just to figure out how...smile.

Something else you might find useful. Sometimes people are not sure about asking for comments and criticism on their images. This thread gives you some helpful advice and guidance about how to get the best feedback from fellow members.

Hello All, My name is Bryan ford. I use an Olympus OMD5 with a 12-50mm lens. Also use a Pentax K10 which is getting a bit dated, however still takes some good images. I have many lens for the Pentax, and now only use it on occasions. I have no real speciality, however I prefer B&W where appropriate. I will post some images later.
