    Hi all.

My name is Steve, i'm 20 years of age and have just started my little trip into photography (Already have some pics from London, and one of my cat).

Hope to speak to you people, and learn a great deal in what is an already fantastic hobby to start in.

    Hi there.

Thank you for the welcome, a question so as to not do something silly. What photo hosting service do you recommend using, to upload pictures on, and to post them here.

I already have a photobucket account, but it's quite old.

    Welcome from me too Steve

    I'm happy with PBase.
I think Photobucket works here too.

But for posting here, there is always the "Upload Images via TinyPic" button on left below text box when replying, etc.

    Cheers,

hey there the name's Chris. My wife just got me a Nikon D90 for my birthday a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to mess around with it too much since I live in the Washington DC area and the weather has been kind of crappy the last few days. So far the few pictures I've taken look awesome even with the auto setting. They look a lot better then the pictures I would take with our little point and shoot Panasonic LX7 which didn't have anything in the way of controls. I hope at some point to be able to take this to a club and try it out. Which is one of the big reasons I wanted a DSLR camera.

    Hi Chris,

Great to have you join us.

Glad you are enjoying the DSLR experience, I just hope you good lady realises she has committed you both to an expensive hobby It won't be long before you are hankering after another lens, or a flash, etc.

It would be good to see some shots and help you learn, so if you have any questions, or have pics to show for critique, you know where we are.

Is it just the 'kit lens' you have?

Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

Yeah she got me the kit lens. My friend who is a self taught photographer is the one that inspired me to go for a higher end camera instead of the cheap one that I had before. My favorite pictures of his are the infrared ones.

EDIT: Also I'll put up some pictures as soon as I get a chance.

    Hi Roziqin,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, you are very welcome to learn from us; just ask any questions you may have and post a few photos you have taken for constructive feedback, e.g. ideas you might want to try to improve in future. (assuming we can think of some)

What sort of subjects do you like to photograph with the A200?

    Best regards,

    Hello,

Thank you for providing this wonderful forum. I am writing from Nova Scotia. As we're expected to have some snow and high winds today, schools are cancelled in my area. That means I am free to take photos and roam this forum instead of heading off to work. Yes, a teacher by trade but a photographer wannabe at heart

Equestrian photography is my main interest, but I love all types and am inspired by the wonderful work I see on this site. My camera is a Canon 400. It's OK for my current needs, but I hope to upgrade the lens as I have only the older kit lenses without IS and a 50f1.8 that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

    Hi Myra,

Welcome to the CiC forums - you say the nicest things, I think you should take tomorrow off too; tell the princpal we said it was ok

I thought it was only us here in the UK that stopped everything for a lil' bit of weather

Is there a nautical history to you as well - with reference to your username?

Do you have your own horse(s)?

    Best regards,

I am going to try something different now; I am going to welcome someone that possibly hasn't even joined (as a member) yet ... but I live in hope

Let's all say "hello" to Marek; a friend from where I work, as I know he (finally) had a look around here today

He has: a Canon 500D, a 70-300mm and a 17-55mm, oh, and a 580 ExII, that should be enough for him to recognise himself

    Hello all,

I started checking out this site a few weeks ago, going through your excellent tutorials. I kept coming back day after day and eventually looked around the forums. I was/am impressed! Great group of mature, helpful, and fun folks.

So, here I am, I decided to join: my name is Eddie, currently residing in (mostly)sunny Arizona USA. I have loved photography for as long as I can remember but until recently I've only messed around with simple point and shoot cameras. I took the plunge last week though and got myself a Canon 550D with a Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens. It is very cold here at the moment and I've kept mostly inside since November, but I am happy to report over the past week I have been, bundled up, outdoors every day enjoying nature, and learning to use my new camera.

    Best regards,
Thank you for the welcome. We tend to be more careful these days in case a school bus goes off the road. As it turned out - there was very little snow. Oops!

Aside from loving the ocean and walking the beaches, there is no nautical connection. We're all Maritimers here, whether from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island

I just have one old mare, now. She'll be 23 this summer, but no one has told her that! Lots of critters where I keep her, though, including some odd looking alpacas.

Great stuff on here! I spent a few hours going through the forum looking for lens and PP info.

Welcome also, Chris! I'm in the DC area myself (MD).

For the IR, I got a great tip from peterb533 in this thread. Point your TV remote at your camera, and press the button while taking an exposure. That will tell you whether the IR filter that's built into your camera body cuts out all the infrared.

    Cheers,
    Rick

Show horses are a different lot, not the coddled family pet or the farm work tool, have you ever been asked to do a portrait of a horse for an owner? I would think it quite a challenge trying to capture the animal's character. I have only had to photograph the family cat and that can be a difficult assignment. Welcome to the group and please upload some of your work.

    Rick,

What if the camera only captures white light?
