Hi all at CIC. Up until a few weeks ago I was a high end compact user, LX3 and most recently LX7. Loved taking photos and pretty well always had my camera with me, although in truth most of my pics, well, left something to be desired.
So, because of the joy I got out of taking photos, recently decided to up my game and start to really gain understanding of the in's and out's of my hobby.
Part one was to buy a better camera, so bought the RX10 which will give me some greater options without dragging around too many lenses and
Part two was to join CIC (and similar sites) to start a cycle of learning (and asking questions) which hopefully will help me gain a greater appreciation of my hobby.

So looking forward to searching through CIC.

Hi all! I'm Antonio, from Italy (Como lake region).

I came here through the Darktable website, following a link about color's theory. Dt is my software of preference when editing photos on Linux.
Like many others I come from a compact background and just recently I decided to buy a Nikon D7000 (with a lot of thinking and with some tips from a friend). I'm all excited about the new possibilities and the image quality I can achieve!
Sadly they did a really awful job on the Como lake's dock and rivers, so it's really un-shootable for now...

Hi, my name is Terry, I am from just outside Leeds. I have been involved in photography for more years than I care to remember. I had formal training in the RAF as an Air photographic operator and then as a Photo-G. I proudly attained membership of the British institute of Professional Photography at Associate level (now lapsed). I have also spent many years as a Pre-press MAC/ scanner operator. I am unashamedly a film photographer who embraced the introduction of Digital and recognized its advantages and disadvantages. But, I am at present regressing back to film, especially B/W and have just converted my cellar into a darkroom.

Well, that's about 45 years in a nutshell, I'm sure more will come out in the future if anyone's interested.

I suspect many people will be, Terry. And will be particularly interested in, hopefully, tapping into that bank of knowledge and experience.

As you may have surmised, CiC does seek to be a learning forum in which people do share so that we can all learn and improve. I hope you'll feel able to join in.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

My reason for joining the forum is that i have a desire to get better in photography.
I would like to grab as much information as possible to better myself.
I love doing outdoor photography like weddings, outdoor portraits..etc
I mostly use 5d mark 2 with 18 to 55 mm 2.8 lens together with 200 to 400 mm white lens.

hello everyone, im JM, i have a canon eos 700d, i use it with 18-55mm kit lens, a nifty 50 f1.8 II and 55-250mm. it was an advise actually, i love freezing moments, as if those moments will never come again. im a neophyte in the world of serious photography. i have a camera before that i used until now, one of those "bridge" camera, i was just amazed on the photos i take following tutorials. happy to know more. travel and photography combine together is such a good thing to do. i love traveling.

Hi, my name is Mark. I live in Melbourne, Australia and became interested in photography as more than just a way to record holiday memories about a year ago. I shoot with a Canon 60D and have two lenses at this stage. A Canon 18-135mm f3.5 kit lens and I just recently purchased a Canon 100mm macro lens. I love that photography gets me out and about, early mornings and late nights :') I also enjoy the post editing aspect as well.

I have read through a few of the threads and tutorials here and think this would be a great place to learn and share experiences. I would love to post some of my pictures here so that I can receive other members comments and advice and therefore become a better photographer over time.

Hello Everyone! I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. I just started my journey with DSLR photography in July, 2013, and have SO much to learn. I love photographing birds and, being in Florida, there are plenty of birds to photograph and plenty of beautiful days to be outside doing that (not that those of you in colder climates should be jealous... ...it's actually kinda cold here today - never reached 70F!).

As I was going through the settings, I saw a reference to a signature but couldn't find where to create it. Can anyone help?

That's one of the features that only becomes available after you make a certain number of posts. I think it's 10. Once you have done that, Go into 'Forum Actions/General Settings' and down on the left-hand side bar you'll see 'Edit Signature'.
