Hi, I am Ajay. I've been taking pictures since 1985. But now it’s a transition period- from: SLR to D-SLR. I joined ‘Cambridge in Colour’ to learn about post processing techniques in digital photography and switch to digital. My weapons are my new Nikon D-5200 with 18-55 mm and 55-300 mm lenses. I like all types of photography but mainly Macro and Wild life.

I hope you will, Jack. That is what CiC is all about. Welcome on board.

So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Why not take a few minutes to briefly introduce yourself as a new member, but please do not post images for comment in this thread - it's just for introductions. You are welcome to post one image to demonstrate your photography style.

It can be confusing joining a new forum. The following information may help you in getting established here. We know you want to get started, but reading this will help you get started properly.

POSTING IMAGES - For technical advice on posting photos, please read this excellent guide How can I post images here? please also see; How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images

VIEWING IMAGES - If you are looking for help on viewing images on this site then try here.

YOUR WEBSITE - If you have your own photo website or Flickr page you may put a link to it in your forum signature (see mine below for example). You can also introduce other members to your site in This thread.

LOCATION - Put yourself on our members map on Google. But please check the security aspects when you do this CiC Google map

CONDUCT - The general emphasis here is on support and learning. To do that, we often give detailed criticism on shots, where people have asked for it. We always try to do that in a fair, polite, and balanced manner. We also have a lot of fun on here, making humorous comments with one another. But again, it's nearly always done in a friendly manner, softened with the use of smilies.

If you follow the above guidelines you won't go far wrong. We rarely have a problem with things that are said on-line. However, the Admin/Mod group monitor all activity on this site, and any inappropriate comment will be removed or edited. We urge all new members to read the Code of Conduct FAQ.

NAMES - It's more friendly if you put your first name in your profile so that it appears on your posts. Select 'forum action/edit profile' from the menu at the top of the page. 'Real name' is at the bottom of the page. We suggest that for security reasons you only use your first name.

TUTORIALS - Try our famous tutorials, especially if you have a specific or general technical question. See the menu at the top of the page.

POSTING - Just start a new thread to ask a new question/start a discussion/post your images, but please give some thought to starting it in the correct section. Or just reply to existing threads to join in with a discussion that is in progress. If you are doubtful about posting your work, then please read this How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Images The FAQ (on menu above) will give you general assistance if you have difficulty FAQ forum usage

Still stuck? Don't worry, just send a PM (Personal Message) to one of the Admin/Mods. You can find them here Mods To get to this list normally, select 'quick links/view forum Moderators'. As you move your mouse over a name a 'PM' button will appear. Click it for the Mod you want and send your PM.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm Raul, I found this website during a search for a technical explanation about HDR and was impressed by the content. I joined the forum as it seems a good place for interaction with fellow photographers.

Regarding myself, I am based in London and travel from time to time. I shoot mainly with my D600 and process my images in Photoshop and Nik. I have recently become interested in HDR but have always been puzzled about it as I see many images that instead of being improved by the HDR processing seem to become very different from the scene that was photographed in first place. This website helped me to better understand and I hope one day I will be able to contribute helping others.

Thank you for having made these pages available.

    Kind regards

    Raul

Carol - It's great to have a photography student in as a member of the forum. Don't think there are any other students currently active on the forum.

I hope being part of CiC helps you, but also that you'll share knowledge and learning with others on here.

Look forward to seeing some of your work.

Hi all, I'm Kevin Lovibond from Tycroes in Carmarthenshire, Wales. I took up photography as a hobby in the summer of 2010 with a Fujifilm Finepix S1600 bridge camera. The bug bit hard within 6 months and I upgraded to a Canon 450D with 2 kit lenses the following January and added 3 further lenses, Sigma 150-500mm OS, Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro and Canon 50mm f/1.8 during 2011. In June 2013 I upgraded further to the Canon 60D and added a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 (2013 "sports" version) & TCs. I primarily photograph wildlife but, this month I've added the Sigma 10-20mm and a 10-stop ND filter to my arsenal as I want to get more into landscapes and long-exposure photography as well. Looking forward to getting to know many of the CIC forum members.

Hi, New to the crowd... Few month old D610 (and couple of year old D7K) user... Looking to up my game, so reading a lot on lighting overall, flash, and macro topics (also bought a 105mm macro with the D610)... Buying iPad books to do so, but also following threads here and there...chiming in occasionally ... Grew-up as a film photographer (Nikon FTN, and dual F2s (still in beautiful condition))... Moved to digital about 8-9 yrs ago with a D80, after a long hiatus from the photo world , and quickly fell back into loving photography again... Been on a crusade to WOW at least myself, with my photos, spending money (of course) to do so :-).

    Hi everyone,
I came across this site across this site a few weeks ago and I've been using it to teach myself the basics. I bought a Canon T3i last summer and loved using it until I bought a 50mm lens and then hit the wall because I was always using auto mode. I finally moved to manual last month. My cat is tired of me taking picture after picture of her, twiddling with the settings to get it right, but I'm learning a lot from this website and others, and now I'm happier with my photos. I'm still learning a lot and thought I'd stop in because CiC has great tutorials.

Hi I'm ultra new to all this, I'm trying the self taught approach and having some limited success. I'm hoping to be guided constructively while I figure everything out. I've just purchased a Nikon D3200 with 18 to 55 lens and 55 to 200.
