Hello, my name is Devon. I am very wet behind the ears when it comes to photography and am looking to make myself better. I stumbled on this link by asking a question to google.
I think that one of the good things about this forum, Devon, is that the people who offer help and advice remember that they were once wet behind the ears as well. This is not a forum in which you get shouted at if it seems you don't know as much as some other people. We have all had to start at the beginning.
It's great to have you here and I hope you enjoy being involved.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello all. My name is Steve Welle. I live in western New York which has lots of good scenery. Photography is one of my hobbies and now that I am mostly retired I can enjoy it more. I joined this forum because I have learned a lot from the CiC web site. I hope to contribute a little now and then in addition to learning more from all of you.
I'm a new member Rich or rbarbara139. I've been reading CiC for sometime and only decided today to join. recently retired and I'm getting back into photography after being away for years. In someways I feel like I'm starting all over again as I jump into the digital world.
My name is Joe or JOEY2EYES, I live just outside of Chicago. I am retired from a drafting & design firm, and have lots of time on my hands, so I thought I would get back into photography and some exercise too. I also need some time to get out of the house as my wife has had some medical problems. My camera experience consists w/Canon A1/AE back in the 35mm days, which I guess are still used. I am familiar, some what, with the functions, but my memory needs to be upgraded to digital times. I have read & looked at other tutorials, yours is the most complete, & everyone is friendly & helpful. So I'm sticking w/u. I consider myself a beginner, as it has been years ago, but my memory is still functioning. The camera I will be using is a Canon Sure Shot SX160 IS, 16MP, 16X, f3.3-8.0, 28mm-443mm. It has a mode dial w/Auto, Live, Program, Tv, Av, M, & other settings. I chose it specifically for these & so I could reacquainted with them & also learn some new techniques, & post production photo editing, (what is good & what is a waste of time learning). Please just call me Joe.

Welcome back, Rich. Quite a few of us on here left photography behind for a long number of years due to work, family etc, but re-discovered it when we had the time and money to do so. So, welcome to the club! Great to have you here.

That's nice to read, Joe. The tutorials are all the work of site owner, Sean (McQ) who's now based in California. The friendliness and helpfulness of the forum is all down to the people who are part of it. It's a great bunch of folk from all around the world.
I hope you enjoy being part of CiC for a long time to come.
Hi, Im a senior-retired-happy! Now use a N D7000 -still happy. I enjoy some evening Photog and PSE teaching at local Com Coll. I also paint some, in acrylic. Target archery (Recurve). and Billiards. Lots of naps.
Hello all. Lets see if I can do this post.
Name's Chuck and I am an amateur photographer having recently purchased a Canon Rebel t3i and now teaching myself the fine art of using it. Up until the purchase of my new DSLR I used my Canon SX10IS and SX280HS focusing primarily on landscape photography. Look forward to visiting everyone here at CIC often, and learning as much as I can.
Thanks.

Hello Chris, I certainly hope that you do find the discussions helpful and informative, as well as being enjoyable. This is very much a learning forum, where people share their knowledge and skill so that we can all learn from each other.

Hi
My name is Ankur, I'm from Gurgaon, India. I'm an iOS developer by profession. I like travelling, reading and riding motorcycle. I am new to photography and recently bought a D7000 with 50mm f/1.8D, Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 and Nikon 70-300mm f/4 (will be delivered next month), I've no experience with DSLR whatsoever, I made my decision based on what I've read on photo.stackexchange and other sites (also my budget :P) and I like to believe I've made a fairly good decision. In last couple of weeks I've read many things about photography that might come in handy, for instance; Exposure triangle, DOF, Bokeh etc. I can't wait to get my hands on the camera and see those things in action. Lastly, I'm glad to be a part of CIC and looking forward to learn more.
Regards
Ankur
Hello Ankur. Thank you for choosing to join this forum. I hope you find it both helpful and enjoyable.
I think you have made a good decision with the D7000. A most important thing, once you get it, is to practice, practice, practice using it, until operating all its features becomes automatic for you. Learning your camera and its lenses is one of the fundamental starting points. After you know and understand them, you can devote your attention full-time to making good pictures.
I think you are very wise in reading as much as you can at the moment. All of this will be to your advantage once you start making pictures.
Hi all,
I'm originally from suffolk (SE England if you don't know where that is!). I've been into photography for sometime now.
My favorite photograher is Elliott Erwitt but i've recently got into HDR photography.
