    Hi all.

Thought I'd better add myself to the "Welcome" thread. I have read a number of the Cambridge Colour tuts over the past couple or three years, but never noticed that there was a forum attached until yesterday.

I'm a strictly amateur photographer with an itchy click-finger. Enjoy many different subjects, ranging from macro, through portrait to landscape and beyond. Plays hell with my budget trying to satisfy lens lust to do them all justice. I shoot with a Nikon D80, my first "grown-up" camera, but would love to be able to upgrade to the D700. Not gonna happen, I think.

Looking forwards to getting to know you better.

New member, just purchased a Panasonic GF1. Couldn't be happier. Compact, with great pictures. Need additional lenses though, only have the H-H020 pancake. Took about a thousand shots on a recent trip to Costa Rica. Software in use, Apeture 3.0 on a MacBook Pro. Does anyone else have experience/thoughts they would like to share on the GF1?

I spent sometime today cruising this community and enjoyed reading some of the posts and messages. Seems to me that the average member is very good about giving and taking advice. I have photographing wedding nearly 30 years now and three years ago I got into digital photography. Since then I have been struggling to learn Photoshop 7.0 and I am constantly seeking help in some of the issues that it presents.

One of hardest things for me to understand is LENS FLARE. I know what creates it, I don't know how to correct it. If any one can give me a hand or two, I would appreciate it.

    Thank you.

    Hello, all.
My name is Petra, and I am a total newbie to photography. I have a Canon Rebel with a kit lens and a 50 1.8. I know very little about taking pictures, but I know that since I've started, I see things, colors, in a whole new way.
I love taking outdoor pictures using natural light. I've seen a lot of the pics posted here, and they are wonderful. Lots of great information as well. I will keep reading and practicing, and one day will bite the bullet and post a picture
    Thanks,
    Petra

    Hi Mike,

    Welcome to CiC

Just start a new thread about your flare question in the general photography forum, and we'll all do our best to help from there.

Hi from sunny Queensland. I am just returning to the hobby after a looong break....my last camera was an F2a. I have just upgraded to a D90 and find that I have jumped on to a very steep learning curve! Love the site.

Hi, this is a great site. I am an old amateur living in Houston. I travel a bit and always have my camera with me, but lately my photography interests have involved our 22 month old granddaughter. What a challenge!

    Hi Klickit,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us/

I'm also glad to see you have found your way around and are active with us.

What lenses do you have for the D80?

One last question, could you tell me a first name please?

    Thanks,

    Hi Ray,

I had a quick look on a review site at the GF-1; boy that is compact with the pancake lens, there are times when that would be nice

I think we have one or two other Panasonic G-series members at CiC, but they may not see your question here.

I would suggest posting a couple of your Costa Rica pics in an appropriate forum for comment with a title like "First post with a Panasonic GF-1" as the thread title and see who pops up.

    Thank you for listening.
    Hi Mike,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, it is great to have you join us.

With regard to your lens flare question, I would suggest you post a question in the General Photography Discussion forum with an example picture or two of shots that are demonstrative of the problem as it affects you.

The advice provided needs to be informed by what you are experiencing; if I say "use a lens hood" that's not much help if you have the sun, or a bright light in a night shot, actually in the picture, but if you're shooting into the sun and it isn't in shot, that could help.

Similarly, PP correction strategies will vary depending on the shot is day/night and if the flare is big blobs or just a vieling reduction of contrast. It'll help to know the EXIF (exposure) information for the shot, including camera and lens involved.

Anyway, good luck with that and I look forward to seeing next post and helping you out.

    Best regards,

    Hi Petra,

Please don't leave it too long before posting a picture, you'll get far more from the personal replies to your queries than reading of others - not that I want to discourage you in that activity

We always say "There's no such things as a silly question" and it's true, plus you'd be surprised how often the people answering basic questions learn along the way; so it does everyone a favour.

Here's one for you to answer, then I'll owe you one in return

What sort of outdoors shots do you enjoy shooting?

    Hi Katherine,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, I'm still learning too.

So, what camera are you using at the moment?

Have you been trained on PS as a graphic artist designer I wonder?

I look forward to seeing one/some of your pictures soon, or maybe you can help answer someone else's PS question.

    Best regards,

    Hi "dsp",

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, in a partly cloudy England, it's great to have you join us.

Could I start by asking you for a first name I can use?

Mmmm, a D90, that would be nice.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them, I may be able to help, or there are many D90 owners here too.

Glad you like the site, most of it is the work of Sean (McQ) and he lets a couple of us run the forums - well, it keeps us off the streets

    Best regards,
