    Hello Everyone,

I am Sam Smith and live in Tampa Bay Fl. I have been away from photography for a long time. I got a Canon Dslr about a year ago and just now really using it. I used to have a camera with me all the time and now I'm starting to carry it with me again. It will take me a little while to get used to the differences in the DSLR vs 35mm film, that is part of the fun. It is a hobby that I am sorry I got out of.

Hello, for the last 10 years I have been doing event videography. Recently I decided to broaden my horizons and add photography to my resume. Starting out with a Canon 7D with the basic gear. Better lenses to follow. I need to video a few more events before that happens..lol. Anyway, I look forward to the ride and appreciate all advise and constructive criticizms along the way.

Welcome to CiC. I was only thinking the other day how few people seem to have a 7D. How about posting some shots from it? No pressure...

Hi from sunny and cold South Africa.
I've been in photography since a young age, started on a Olympus OM-1 and did B&W work in dark room in France where I grew up.

I recently bought a DSLR D90 with a few lenses.
I am beginning in photo processing through CS5, endless possibilities, but quite challenging. I wonder if I should have rather gotten into Lightroom 3.

This website and forum has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom from which I would love to benefit from.
    Have a great day eveyone!

    Hi Colin,
    Thanks for the welcome.
Yeah the game is a little tight, so far 19-14 for the Springboks. Two great teams to watch playing, that's for sure!

    Cheers!

<EDIT> Well done for the last minute move!!! The Springboks are crying...

    Hi All,
I'm new to this site and to photography. I got a Canon T2i(550D) and a EF 28-135mm a few weeks back and have been snapping away since then. Have been using competitions on this site and others to give me ideas and projects of what to go shoot. Have posted two of my pics in the August comp, gonna try the ENERGY comp next I think...
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you guys, feel free to give me pointers!

    Hi Sam,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me, it is great to have you join us and see you getting into the swing of things so quickly.

What sort of subject do you like to shoot in Tampa Bay?
I just googled it to see where Tampa Bay is; I see it is that 'notch' on the left hand side, about half way up I think Miami is as close as I have been, at least it's in the same state.

    Cheers,

    Hi there "wcjacobs",

The first thing I'm gonna ask for is a first name we can use

    A bit of diversity, eh?

What sort of things do you shoot (video I mean)? Corporate stuff, sports events or weddings, etc.?

I would imagine you'll get some opportunities and have good 'access' and contacts from the video side of the business.

I look forward to seeing some pics and/or answering any questions you have.

Welcome to the CiC forums from ...

Hello, My name is Anne and I recently bought my first DSLR camera, a Canon EOS Rebel T1i/500D. Up until now, I have only used point and shoot cameras, my last one being a Sony Cybershot. I really do have no idea what I am doing with this new camera but thats only because I havent learned yet ! Cant say I have a good 'eye' but I can manage to take a photo without chopping a head off and most things end up being in the picture. I work full time so this is definitely a hobby however I will be able to use my camera at work as I have to evidence things for inspection regimes and I do a little tiny bit of desktop publishing (nothing major and nothing that uses anything other than microsoft publisher), I work in a picturesque part of the city, Bournville, so there is some scope to practice there too as we look after some conservation areas. I am hoping to learn from this site.

    Anne.

    Hi Marco,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me in a not so hot (or sunny) Windsor, UK.

There are a few discussions on CS vs LR around here, but they are different programmes for different jobs. Sure LR lets you do some basic stuff to images, but you'd need something like Elements to go with it if you didn't have CS5 because LR just cannot do some of the things we commonly want to do. So I wouldn't worry and instead, ask here, invest in a good book or two, ask here, possibly an online tutorial and learn how to use CS5, and ask here.

    Cheers,

Hi Pete, and a warm welcome to CiC. Nikon D90 (good camera), Thailand (good for photography) seems a good mix to me. Don't try putting film in the D90 - it plays havoc with the sensor.

Any help you need just start a new thread in the appropriate place and ask anything you need to know. We all have to start somewhere - I'm just not sure where I will end up.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

Hello everyone! I've been lurking around here for a few days enjoying all the amazing photography you guys post and so far I've been extremely impressed by the supportive and friendly environment that this message board seems to have. I used to spend a lot of time on message boards in the past but the vast majority of them were spiteful places where people were more concerned with one-upping each other than helping each other out. There's a completely different vibe here and I like it!

Anyways, about me. I'm a Canadian who's currently living in Busan, South Korea, where I'm working as an English teacher. I've been here for four months and so far things are going well, there's no shortage of great photographic opportunities to be had.

As far as photography is concerned, I like to capture things as I see them. The world has provided so many fascinating subjects by itself that I've never felt a need to stage my own. Although I've been taking pictures since I was 7 years old, almost two decades ago when an aunt lent me a spare SLR to play with, I bought my first "real" camera just this past February: an Olympus E-P1. The difference in ease of use, image quality and features has been a revelation, having gotten so used to point and shoots with electronic zooms and difficult to use manual focusing if it was available at all. Taking pictures has gone from casual entertainment to a serious hobby, and in light of that I invested in a good lens for it: the famous Leica D Summilux 25mm, which hopefully will be arriving in the mail before the end of this week. (The waiting is murder.) It was quite an expense, but my job has afforded me the luxury of being a little frivolous, and with the stellar reputation this lens has built for itself since it was released I don't foresee any loss of value over the years. I also wanted to buy a standard lens to push my photographic skills a little, being so used to just zooming to get the image I want from wherever I happened to be standing.

Anyways, that's me! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi,

iPhone 3G, and a "pink" Sony DSC-W55 is what i currently use. When I get a chance, I use my cousin's Nikon D3000 and hopefully will be in the market soon for a Canon t2i. The only reason I'm really looking at the t2i is for it's video capabilities. I honestly would love to make a short film. I was hoping to start out with photography and move from there. Now, I find myself sucked into this hobby. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here.

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hello everyone,

I finally decided to join after lurking for a while. I stumbled across this site while trying to educate myself on all things photography. There does seem to be quite a bulk of information here, and I hope to take advantage of it. Photography has been a hobby of mine for a few years, and I'm interested in improving my skills and delving deeper into the photography world. I have a Sony A100 (first DSLR) that I bought a few years ago. I've also accumulated a few lenses since I bought it. Anyway, I look forward to learning from the tutorials and the wise advice from members here!
