Thanks for your encouraging remarks Rob. Not that I wanted to boast about it, but just because you mentioned, yes I am an Aussie of Turkish background.

Hello from Ontario Canada. Retired and very much an amateur. Many years ago with film, I spent too much time in the dark room....now probably too much on the computer when I am not taking photographs, playing golf (badly) cooking, and being the general gofor around the house
Hello from Ontario, Canada,
I have been forced into early disability/retirement at age 50. The loss of ability to do my other hobbies has caused me to return to an old love of photography. I have just ordered some new equipment and want to get an education into the digital photography realm. I use to develop my own 35mm film, so this si a completely different world.
I came across this site while searching the web for learning material and started reading the tutorials, finding them to be very educational as well as informative. I am really looking forward to learning and utilizing all this new equipment, once again enjoying all the sites this world has to offer.
Thanks Clactonian/Mike for the reference to more Photoshop tutorials!!

heeeeeeeeellllloooooooooooo everybody! my name is pono and im from hawaii. im here to learn.
hi there,
this is mitesh from mumbai, india...
have been a cityscape enthousiast for a long time - whenever asked what one can get me from their trip, my answer is standard - a city poster!!
till last month, that is...when i wondered why get other people's perspective when i can make my own! two birds with one stone, i get to travel AND capture fascinating skylines and buildings. which made me take up photography - till now i've only been using a PnS (yeah picking up the lingo too!!) canon ixus 50 (okey laugh away all you want but even that was expensive then!) without even having ever read the manual (and i have it for 5 years!!). wonder of wonders, i still managed to find the manual, dust it off and marvel at the amazing stuff it can already do for a compact camera, compared to what i'd been doing thus far - NOTHING!
next stop, to buy a dslr and some lens and the entire paraphernalia, of course which brought me here - have been reading up some tutorials and members' posts and can't get enough of it. of course, totally confused in these 10 days with all the terms, but the way you guys have been not only welcoming new members, but encouraging very basic (and what must seem stupid to most of you professionals!) questions, i was encouraged to join as a member.
so i'm rolling up my sleeves, guys...brace yourselves to clear a lot of confusion - at least till you tell me to STOPPPPPP
cheers
mitesh
Hi Mitesh,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me.
Nah, we'd never laugh at a camera, we're just not like that here.
We do, when we get to know each other, have some fun though.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, so ask away.
I very much doubt we'll say "stop", but maybe you'll be the first
OK, I'm "braced", fire away!
Cheers,
Hi there Clyde,
The tutorials here are definitely some of the best in the world, so I'm sure you pick up lots from them, but if you get stuck, don't hesitate to aska question or two here in the forums, it is what we exist for.
So, what did you order, I wonder?

Hi Dogald, (is that your firstname?)
Two people from Ontario in one evening, that's spooky man!
I have once, just ventured into Windsor, Ontario waaaay back in 1977 when staying in Detroit, TBH I can't remember a lot of it, it was night-time and we only went through the tunnel into the city to say we'd been, if you know what I mean.
I'm strictly amateur too, as are many people here, but we're a helpful bunch, so do continue to ask questions and post pictures.

Hi everyone. I skipped the whole proper etiquette thing and posted a question before introducing myself, but I figure better late than never!
Anyway my real name is Jen and I am an engineer in real life, but like dabbling in the arts to exercise the other half of my brain. I've always enjoyed taking pictures and over the last few months have just gotten sucked into the downward spiral of photography addiction. I'm cheap and a nerd which means I spent months reading online articles about how to get the most out of the P&S I already owned, but I couldn't help myself from reading all the articles about light, depth of field, long exposures, etc and craved the control and options that could only come from a DSLR.
I finally took the plunge and on Friday my Canon 40D w/ a 28-90mm and nifty-fifty were delivered. I have some old tripods donated from relatives who don't use them and my birthday is this weekend so hopefully I'm getting a gear bag and ND filter! I also signed myself up for an intro class and a night/low-light photography class both of which start this week! I don't think I'd ever make money from photos, but I love having memories captured as beautifully as they are in my head!
On my off time I spend alot of time with my dog (a frisbee catching, agility learning adorable nutcase of a puppy), learning new things (ballet and ballroom dancing, knitting) and sports (football, rock climbing, kickball, etc). If you look up young-active lifestyle in the dictionary you get a picture of me!
I look forward to learning from the site and hopefully gaining knowledge to help contribute as well!
Joined yesterday thought I would say hi. Looking forward to learning and making friends along the way.
My name is Debra and I'm from Melbourne Australia.
Thanks for the warm welcome Rob. Just made a cuppa so I'm going to sit and go through the tutorials.
Hi, I am james brown and a photographer plus a software professional. Enjoy photography very much. I have a Nikon D 5000 camera.
Hi everyone,
I am an photographic artist from Staten Island New York, USA and I just want to say that I am happy to be aboard.
I have been doing photography since I was 9 years old and for the first 15 years just photographed my life with B/W film.
When I got married, I had to learn how to shoot professionally (I.E. color film and flash) fast forward many years and I have now had exhibits in many countries and work in many books etc. I think we can all help each here and I will be posting soon. Have a look at my blog www.FineArtFotos.com and please become my FAN on FACEBOOK ( search for FINE ART FOTOS) I think you will like what you see... Please let me know what you think... Thanx.
Hi Donald,
Thanks for the welcome, been away for a bit recently, as you say, just a stones throw away, maybe cross paths someday. Just look out for an 'Odd Sigma user' !!
Cheers.
