So you can expect some good photos from me in the future.

For now all of you that are interested you can see the photos I took with P&S cameras here
    Hi Neno,

I just had a look at your albums - certainly no shortage of creative flair there (puts me to shame).
With a camera that probably allows a bit more control and quality, you should flourish with the new Canon.

Rob's done the welcome speech, so I'll just say "Hi" for now and look forward to seeing more of you in the forums.

Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

Hi Dave -- thanks for the warm welcome. My first name is Elise. I have to confess that the hawk and the owl near the top of my flickr site were a "studio" shoot -- they were both at a rehabilitation site, and we were a group of photographers gathered together to have them pose for us. Each of them had been injured and was missing an eye, and what you can't see in the pics are the leashes connecting them to the handler It was a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with those beautiful birds -- we all started out with our tripods set up and we all wound up sitting on the ground, inching ourselves closer and closer as the shoot went on.

But I do have birds in the wild as well!

Hi Everybody....I have retired & emigrated to USA from Scotland some 2 years ago. Live in Redmond the home of Microsoft in an Adult over 55+ community where there is an active club for everything you can think of including a quite big camera club.
Have pretty controversial views re RAW vs JRG but thats for another posting I'm sure.
Mostly Nikon DSLR gear plus a Canon Rebel as they call it here,(it got me started in digital having loved the old D90X). We all use DPreview I'm sure so they will be near me in their new home. Hope they like the Northwest as much as we do.

    Hi all,
My name is Peter, I'm reasonably ancient (73), I'm a retired Project Manager from the construction industry and I live in Italy. As long as I can remember I have always been interested in photography as a casual hobby and started into digital some years ago. Currently I am becoming interested in macro/micro/close-up (?) photography and am joining here to bring myself up to speed because I am finding it very challenging. I have Nikon D90 and, for the macro stuff, I have recently bought their 105mm f2.8 VR lens which, it being that it cost me an arm and nearly a leg, I am determined to master.
    regards to all,
    Peter Eastwood.

Hi Tom and welcome to CiC. I hate to tell you this, but you are not the first Scot to move to America, or NZ, or... etc. I can't see what's wrong with Scotland myself (I used to live near Glasgow) I have been thinking of moving back there.

Hi Ben. Welcome to CiC. The Falklands!!! I do believe you might be our first member from that part of the world. Why don't you post some images of the island for us. We are always looking for something different here.

Hi everyone, I'm Bongex of the Philippines. I chanced on this website as I google for ideas on how to maximize the use of my 2 point and shoot cameras, the GE e1035 which I unintentionally acquired and my Olympus Tough 8010 which suites my adventurous weekend escapades in our countryside. I am very much a neophyte in 'Photography' and still trying hard to comprehend terms and applications in the user's manual. Nevertheless, in my 'googling' efforts, your Photography Tutorial page inspire me to like 'take a second look of these gadgets at hand'. I felt that if I could be able to capture good enough pictures of the remote nooks in our countryside and share it, it might be a good educational exposure to these places. That if I can learn enough how to do it. So here I am, trying to learn whatever you guys are willing to share whatever in your forum. I attached sample picture in my recent escapade for whatever criticism it deserve to improve it.

    Hi Bongex

Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (archive)

Welcome to CiC, we are very glad you decided to join us. You'll find plenty of helpful info on here, and if you have any questions just start a new thread. It looks as if you live in a very pretty part of the world. Good shots BTW for a P&S camera.

If you haven't already done so, it would be helpful if you could put your first name in your profile so that it appears on your posts. See the FAQ if you are not sure how to do this.

    Hi there Bongex,

You will be better off starting a new thread in one of the critique forums rather than here, but I'll respond with a couple of thoughts.

On #1, it is a little dark in the lower left corner and although you don' want to divert attention away from the main subject, which I assume is the distant jungle floor through the gap, being able to see a little more waterfall would help. Whether you can do this in PP I don't know - depends what you have and whether the shots are RAW or jpg captures.

On #2, the waterfall is too centred - probably because P&S cameras usually only have one central focus point
If possible, a few steps to the right, a bit lower might have produced a better composition.

    Hope that helps.

Welcome to the CiC forums from ...

Hi, I am retired computer software engineer. My time spent now is wood working (most wood turning as art work), photography, fishing and hunting. I currently live in North Alabama.

I got started with photography to take action shots of my son playing baseball (currently on scholarship at NWS) and product pictures of my art work. A year ago I purchased a Canon xSi (450d) camera and the two kit lenses. This past year I increase my interest in photography and made approx. 5,000 images. I just updated to a Canon 7D and purchased a 100-400mm IS L and a 24-105mm IS 1.4L lense. I am a newbie.

I will be touring Israel in a couple of weeks (provided things do not get worse).

Hi, my name is Cindie and my friend Raylee introduced me to CIC. I have always love taking pictures since I can remember. In February of this year I purchased my first DSLR. A Nikon 3000. I am taking an Introductory to Photography course at my local College in Niagara Falls. I have taken a few shots I am very happy with but I have a lot to learn. Looking forward to seeing some wonderful shots and learning everyday.
