    Hello Everyone,

I am extremely new to photography and I am finding it hugely challenging!! I have done a couple of workshops with photographers in Australia and enjoyed them very much. I am doing an online photography course at the moment to try and learn as much as I can....so please expect some rather stupid questions from me....
I look forward to reading and learning, reading and learning!!
    Cheers
    Trish

    Hi Jack,

Welcome to the CiC forums from me.

Nothing wrong with 'the technical aspects', does that include your choice of subjects too?

    Cheers,

    hey Dave,
So far, in my very limited experience, I am drawn to landscapes, although the idea of portraiture is exciting to me! I am slowly collecting a collection of lenses. I have a Canon 7d with a 50mm 1.4, 24-70mm 2.8 and a sigma 8 - 16mm. I am still trying to get a handle on these lenses. I haven't had a look through all the different topics yet in the CiC forums, looking forward to learning alot from what has already been written. I am finding that people in the photography world are very friendly and helpful....fabulous!!

    Hello

I'm Tuesady found you all while sreaching but not sure what now. I've been a keen picture taker since I got a 110mm for christmas many moons ago and haven't really stop over the 30 plus years. Never been told what or how to so I think I've done petty good on my own so far.

My lastest camera is a Fuji S5600 must be about 5yrs old but if does what I get time for.

I used to drive 12 plus hours a day and took my camera to pass the time around the south of England middle bit and got quiet good at taking shots on the move.

Will be boring you with many pictures as time goes on.

Hello and a belated welcome to the group. With seven posts in and a few in the mini contests you are well into the regular pattern of this group. You may not get any direct feedback on photos submitted in the contests unless you ask. As for your other entries, the tree/fog shots are very good. The karate kid is very amusing. I'm sure you will get additional comments later on this week.

    Welcome to CiC.

As well as the excellent tutorial on here, the other article on Hyperfocal distance that I found very helpful was this.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

Hello, i need advice. I have never used a digital camera and am not even very knowledgeable about 'normal' cameras. I need a digital camera, mainly for either close up detailed photos or landscape/countryside photos. I have found one reduced in Littlewoods. Its a Samsung 12m pixel digital camera ES30. It has a 27 mm wide angle lens and a 5x optical zoom. Its reduced from over £200 to £89. I just want to know if it will do. Id like to be able to print large magnified photos to frame and sell and im clueless about what pixels i need. Is this a good buy? Many thanks.

    Hello and welcome to CiC.

If you were to buy the ES30, you can get it for a lot cheaper than £89. Just do a Google. You'll see, for example, that Argos is selling it for £64.99.

However, the most important questions are - What are you really looking for? And what sort of money do you have to spend?

I think maybe you need to do quite a bit of reading about cameras before you commit to buying. If you're talking about developing a very keen interest in photography and, as you write, even thinking about showing your images publicly, possibly for sale, then you need to do quite a bit more study and learning about what the options are.

What you're looking at is referred to as a 'point and shoot' camera. Even within that category, I'm not sure this one would come very near the top of the rating scale. If you're meaning to be more serious about your photography, then you'll need to look way up the scale from the Samsung.

You might want to read this article that explains what bridge cameras are. From there you get move up into the world of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras.

Your obviously keen enough to have found us on this site. So, don't rush it. Do some reading and then make up your mind about where you want to set your goals.

Thanks Shadowman, as for feedback I expect a hell of lot as I have never used an editing prog and slap the camera on auto 9 out of 10 shots but finding this site will change me for the better( I think).

Good morning...New to the forum but not new to photography. Made the jump to DSLR at the beginning of the year with a Canon 20D and have recently moved on with the much maligned 60D. Having a great time . Hal Mitchell from Canada's Left Coast
