    Sara,

Welcome indeed to the best site on the net for learning about digital.

Domestic Engineer? I would prefer the term Mother, Mum or in your neck of the woods it would be Mom? Whatever the term, I know for a fact that you do more work before breakfast than I do in a week!

As for basic questions, go for 'em. You'll always get an answer, and don't feel you shouldn't post something up.

    Questions and Answers.

It's what the site is all about!

hi and welcome. Yeah I agree with the ask away approach to questions. You'll find everyone tolerant and informative generally (although I tend to be better at tolerating and worse at informing ). There is quite a broad spectrum of members here from pros to hobbyists of all flavours which leads to quite a good mix of quality. Many have practical flavour to answers too rather than the usual artificial useless concerning real world approach that many knowledgable people in particular can have (many other sites that get a good base of clued up members fall into this trap I think). Hope to see pics posted from new users too, there is a guide made by colin in the site section if you get stuck on how to do this https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/thread785.htm .

ah, nor me! I had realised but 1. The thread started after I joined and more importantly 2. I don't want to scare people away or give them nightmares.

    ADMIN EDIT (29 June 2009):
Any mention of this thread being split refers to a time when posts between 1 March and 15 June 2009 were separate from the original thread started on the 1 January 2009. In order to keep the active thread (2) a reasonable size, we occasionally carry out archiving; posts between the above dates have now been moved here i.e. into the original thread (1), although their title may still say (2).

Hello all. I've repeatedly visited the tutorial pages which I think are excellent but only just realised that there was a forum too. Anyway, I work as a professional ecologist and my photography tends to be related to this (wildlife and landscape) although I do dabble in studio work and I'm also starting to become interested in architectural photography. Needless to say I belong to several other photographic forums, so I keep my name and avatar consistent in all of them. I will undoubtedly post asking questions and hopefully I will also make helpful posts in return.

Hello Phideaux, welcome! Great to have you with us. Sounds like you have quite an interesting array photographic experience. It's great when your background (ecology) can add a deeper understanding to the photos you take.

I think you'll find these forums to be quite helpful and friendly. We look forward to hearing more from you.

    Hi Phideaux,

A hearty welcome from me to - if there's anything I can do to help, just sing out.

By the way, what kind of camera equipment are you using?

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hello all,

After spending hours studying CiC's tutorials (a gold mine easy to understand even for a French ) I've finally decided to join the forum.
I hope you'll excuse my perfectible English and the stupid or already submitted questions to come.
As a newbie photographer I'll do my best to contribute but don't expect too much from me, for... let's say a decade .
My points of interest are paragliding and sea kayaking and when not flying or paddling, I try to make pics with a 40D and a Canon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 IS.
For the moment I'm focused on sport and landscapes and my pics are mostly deceiving .
But as a beginner I'm learning a lot each time and it's boosting my motivation.

    Best regards,
    Remi

    Welcome Remi, Phideaux and Sara,

Glad to have you all aboard.
The wide diversity of countries, careers and hobbies is what helps these forums enormously and it is constantly expanding, which is great. It adds interest beyond the primary photographic exchanges.

If you have any questions (as Mark says above); a quick search on a key word may find you an answer quickest, but if not, by all means just start a new thread with your question and the people who can help most will answer you, usually within a day or less, rather than weeks.

    My regards to all,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

Hi All, just registered and thought I would introduce myself.
My name is Keith, I am generally classed as old by my 'mates', my main interest is Match Fishing but I do like to get out and about with my camera now and again.
I can only be described as a casual photographer, but I do read as much as I can to try to improve my results.
My photagraphy gear includes a Nikon D90 and a Nikon D40.
My lenses so far include aNikon 18-200vr, a Nikon 18-55 kit lens and a Sigma 10-20mm.
    I use a Nikon SB400 flash unit.
I am hoping to buy a Sigma 150-500 lens this week, (which is how I found this site) as its just about in my budget and I really want to do some long lens photography at a local wildlife centre near my home in Coventry.
I will probably visit to read more than post as I am sure my knowledge of photography is very much less than the many keen contributors that I am sure are willing to share their knowledge and experience.

    Welcome Crusty,

Another Nikon man, I think the Nikon brigade here could do with some help in the weekly challenges, so if you've got a decent picture or two, do join in.

And the same (as my post #12 above) goes for any questions you may have.

    Hi Remi,

Great to have you with us

Tell us more about your flying ... I gave it up a couple of year ago (the aircraft I love - just couldn't stand the egos, politics, and fighting amongst many of those around them!) - was mostly flying light-twins.

    Hi Colin,

Thank you and Dave for your welcome.

I'm paragliding in the south of France close to the Italian border.
I wish everyone can see at least one time a frozen mountain lake, in his nest of rocks and cliffs, from cloud base. It's like being in a theater, when you're in cloud's shadow, the light only comes from the ground, 6000ft below, with amazing colors. Is that not missing you now ?

Yes, life may be easier in paragliding too without some gentlemen egos. But now I grew up a little bit and have decided to simply ignore them. You can meet interesting people almost everywhere so why pay attention to the others.

    Rgds,
    Remi

    New Here

I tried to post a quick hello a while back but it seemed to disappear into the ether.
I'm unfamiliar with computers so I'm never sure if I'm doing things right or not.

My name is Raker, I'm 47 and I'm into photography.
In the 80's and 90's I ran photography classes for the council, mainly working with special needs groups.
I'm completely and utterly confused by modern photography, mainly because of the jargon and buzzwords which I find completely impenatrable most of the time.

    Re: New Here

Hi Raker, good to have you with us! You are doing things just fine...your original "hello" post can be found at Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (archive). This thread became so long that we had to split it into two. I've now moved this post into the new welcome thread, so it will get a fresh look by everyone.

I'm completely and utterly confused by modern photography, mainly because of the jargon and buzzwords which I find completely impenetrable most of the time.
Well, that's what we're here for We look forward to hearing more about your experiences...

    Welcome Raker,

If you've not found them yet, Sean's excellent tutorials may help with some of the terminology and technology of digital/modern photography, but if you've got any quick questions, just ask away.

    Regards,
