Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself her

    Hi,
My name is Mike Barnard and I am 63 years old and have taken early retirement after being made redundant last year.I am starting to take photographs again after about 15 years ( I was brought up on film ) and at one time being a wedding photographer so everything has changed with the digital revolution. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a digital camera not knowing how I would adapt to the new technology,I bought a second hand Fuji fine pix E900 + telephoto and wide angle lens's from ebay for $50.00 and have been amazed at the quality of image that it produces ( 9 mega pixels plus it has full manual control ) I also have photoshop 7, gimp and Imagic 5.0.
I live near to London ( Sanderstead,Surrey, U.K ) and if I can help any members when they visit U.K. just email me.

    Regards,

    Mike Barnard

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

    Hello,

My name is Eric, I live in Wisconsin on the Lake Michigan side of the state. My desire is to progress beyond the snapshot phase of photography. While a DSLR would, and eventually will be my choice of weapon, I'll start out with my Panasonic Lumix FZ35 believing that much can be learned about photography before investing in the next level.

I have never, nor had I ever expected to join a forum of any sort. Cambridge in Colour's initial impression of quality and non-threatening accessibility, and then upon further inspection consistency in those areas, convinced my usually diffident nature to give it a try. I'm not sure how soon I'll "man up" and submit a photo, but in the meantime, I'll try to learn from the many opportunities presented by this site.

Thank you all in advance for being this neophyte's mentors,

    Eric

    Hi

I live in a village about thirty kilometres inland from Durban, South
Africa. For a number of years I was a detective with the national police
force stationed at various specialised Units e.g Narcotics, Internal
Investigation, Health Care Fraud, Commerical Crime (White Colalr Crime). I
retired some years ago and built onto the skills I had acquired in the
police to consult for the private sector in the combatting of fraud and
corrupt pracitices. I am either a member of or have been afforded observer
status with professional bodies in South Africa, the United States of
America, Europe and Britian and, up until recently travelled, frequently,
both within South Africa and to Europe, Britian and the USA. I have formed
the opinion which I expressed in a paper I recently presented titled " The
world is not flat, it is not round, it is crooked...." is essential correct.
I have therefore decided to retire permantly from this line of work. I now
need to do something with my time so I have decided to apply my mid to
photography and pursue a degree in classics.
As far as I can remeber I have alwqys had access to a camera and have owned
and used vartious types, from the Brownie box camera, the 110 fromat through
to the slr's. I disposed of my and slr in the mid nineties. I have made use
of digital compacts for work and pleasure. I have now purchased a Canon 450D
with the two kit lenses (18 to 55 mm IS and 55 to 250 mm IS) and the 50 mm
f1.8 and the 100mm f2.8 macro. I am not particularly artistic. I intend to
    try macro photogrpahy.

Seriously (no, actually that may be true), anyways - welcome to the CiC forums from me.

What are you shooting with these days?

    Best regards,
Thanks for the welcome. I'm presently using a D90 w/ 18-105 kit lens, a 50mmf/1.8, and a Sigma 70-300mm. I've also pressed into service a lens from my film days, a Minolta Rokkor 100mm macro w/ extension tube. I bought an adapter to fit the lens to my D90.

Hi to all beginner, hobbyist, professional out there. William here and I'm a Filipino based here in Singapore. I started this hobby about 5 years ago using a simple digital camera and slowly fell in love on taking photos even though I seldom achieve the photo I want them to be...

In this community and with the help of Masters out there, i hope to learn faster and to have a cream of my crop...should i say specialization in the field of photography...Portraiture and Landscapes are just some of my target specialization...

More power to all and keep shooting...

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Another big rush of new membership whilst I've been enjoying my beauty sleep (and no, it hasn't worked!)

So - Cor, Mike, Eric, Kevin, Andy, William.

You are each very, very welcome.

I hope, like Eric has suggested, you find CiC a bit different in that it is about learning, with the knowledge and experience of members being shared openly and willingly in a spirit of constructive and cooperative support. You've already seen that we do generally tend to go with proper names rather than more obscure user names and conduct ourselves in, maybe, a 'quieter' way than some places that are 'louder' and more brash.

Of course, that doesn't mean we don't have fun, as some of the threads will show to you.

So, enjoy it and I look forward to seeing your pictures and comments in various threads.

Hi, My name is Sue and I have been interested in photography all my life. I started with a Kodak instant camera, then used various compact film cameras followed by my first SLR a Minolta x300. Then the age of digital came and I started with an Olympus compact followed by the then new Canon 400D. I now own a lovely Canon 7D which is my pride and joy. I use a variety of lenses. I live in Buckinghamshire in the Chilterns. I am still exploring all the different types of photography but feel drawn to the natural world. My aim is to get out more and shoot something different and to do this, I give myself photo challenges so that I do not end up doing the same thing. I am looking forward to looking at the wealth of information here and to see what everyone else is up to. Happy shooting.

That's an excellent approach to learning. Though, don't set your self so many new challenegs that you then don't give yourself enough time to master the skills associated with the challenge you've just been working on.

    Hi to one and all!,
My name is Jos and I live near the sea in South Wales in the UK. I love to photgraph landscapes escpecially when bathed in light. Unfortunately my results are in the 'must try harder' category - but hey it gets me out of the house!

    Hi Jos,

Yes, I'm another one that needs to get out more

    What are you shooting with?
Lokk forward to seeing some examples, be brave, Post a New thread in either Nature & Architecture or People & Pets and request some critique - it really is THE best way to improve. Do say a few words about the image(s) though, at least give the shot info., to allow more useful feedback.

Hi. I am Mel Timtiman from Manila, Philippines. I started taking photo about a year ago and since then, I never stopped carrying my camera everywhere I go. I'm a happy Canon 50D user and like to take photos of everything from portraits to landscapes, still life to street life, anything that catches my eye.

Hi, Ray here in the Isle of Man. Its great - you can photo the sunrise over the sea then work all day and photo the sun set.

Taking Photos for work - broken bits of steel mostly. Use a D3.

Always taken alot of slide pics of expeditions - Iceland, Nepal etc.,

Started to take more Photo's in past year or so and want to do the Art of Photo course.

I like dark and spooky pics......... Mono is cool too.

I was impressed by the tutorials on this site and kept coming back to them. They are really good.

Thought i'd join a competition or two - i like the short 10 pic comps - where you get to vote - cool idea.

I've got a smugmug pic site but i'm sure no on will want to look.

    Cheers
    Ray

    Hi All,
I have found that the tutorials have been some of the best in increasing my understanding of photography. Thank you!
I have had a digital camera for about four years starting with an Olympus E-410 and more recently purchasing the E-620. I look forward to learning and sharing the 'photographic journey".
