Hi, My name is Byz and I'm from Australia. I joined this forum to improve my understanding of the science of photography and how to use my camera to its full potential. Looking forward to meeting other members.
When I work out how to post a photo, I will.
regards,
Byz

Hello everyone, my name is Dan and I'm from Latrobe, Pa. I am 55 and fairly new to photography. I dabbled a little bit back in the 70's and 80's but got away from it until recently. My wife and kids bought me a Nikon D-40 last year with just a standard 18-55mm lens and I'm hoping to learn a few things from the forum. It seems a little more complicated than the older 35mm cameras I used to use. I am a coin collector so a lot of my pictures are close-ups of coins, I also like to take wildlife pictures. Thanks in advance for any help and/or input I can get from fellow members...Dan

Hi All,
Just joined the site today and wanted to say hello. My name is Ian Downey, I`m 70 years of age, and am now retired - from a daily job anyway that is . I hail from Northern Ireland and while I`m not coming as someone completely new to photography I am always open to learning better ways of doing things and enjoy advancing my knowledge and meeting and discussing with new people. This is what makes photography forums like this interesting where you get to interact with folk from all over the world and learn from them and share with them. The cameraderie is usually first class and I`m sure this forum will be up there with the very best of them. Great to be alive in this day and age and able to partake in all this new technology. Looking forward to meeting some of you in the days and weeks ahead. Meantime, my very best regards to all. Ian

Hi! My name is Sonia and I live in Metairie, which is very close to New Orleans, Louisiana. (yup! survived Katrina)
I'm an "amateur" photographer who in the past was very active taking film pictures but then stopped for many years. As a matter of fact, I almost gave up when all this digital cameras came about and my Minolta XE-7 not only was an extinct species but an ailing one too. Many years later I took unto the Canon "point-n-shoots" until the old passion came back. Now I have a Canon EOS 60D and have discovered the beauty of night shooting (which introduced me to this website and forum).
Hi, I am Raghu and I am at the beginner level trying to understand that tools of photography. I love taking pictures of kids and people going through their chores, so in essence their portraits. And the other area I am interested is taking pictures of old buildings and temples and their inhabitants. I just want to capture at least a small percent of their majestic presence their story. I shoot most of my pictures in India.
Hi Dan,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join the community.
There's not too much different with digital (at the taking stage) from film; just a knob for ISO (instead of boxes of film)
oh, and AF (and all that goes with that), and menus and LCD screens and histograms, hmmm, ok, may be it has changed a lot
Yes, I'm sure we can help, the 'trick' if you can call it that, is not to be shy - ask questions and post photos for critique, but do tell us a bit about what you think of them and what areas you might be having problems with.
We could start with coin pictures ...
Anyway, all the best for now,
Hi Ian,
I hope you'll soon realise that we're actually better than most (all?) other forums.
So, having set the bar high, I'd better get on with it; Welcome to the CiC forums from me, it is great to have you join us.
I hope you stay for months and years rather than "days and weeks" though
If you're not new to digital yourself, don't be shy, jump into the threads as you see fit.
What are you shooting and PP'ing with?
Best regards,
Hi Sonia,
I'm glad we don't have weather like Katrina here
Funnily enough, I think it was researching night photography that introduced me to Sean's Cambridge galleries back in 2008, then I found the forums - and well, the rest is history, I'm still here!
What lens(es) have you got for the 60D?

Hi Raghu,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.
It sounds like your tastes are remarkably similar to Antonio, do look out for his on "Square" and "Non Square" Portrait threads , they contain a fair amount (often from Antonio himself) of people doing their work. He has also traveled to India.
What camera and lens(es) are you shooting with?
Best regards,
Hi Everyone, My name is Cathy. I ran across this forum in a thread from another site, and it looks like a great place to learn more about photography. Right now I am just trying to get use to the format and get a profile up, but I look forward to participating in the threads and learning from the wealth of information in them.
Cheers!
