    Hi everybody,

My name is Sasha, found this site long ago (was interested in Low light Photography), but only joined the forum a couple of days ago. I live in Maribor, Slovenia.

Last year my external hard disc crashed , just when my PC was getting an upgrade (and clean install) to Windows 7. All of my digital photos, except some on CD's and USB Key were lost. Since then i Backup my photos on double external discs.

I never owned a SLR, though I had a chance to play with some of them. At the moment I use a Fujifilm S9600/S9100 Bridge camera and Pentax W90 (plus a Nokia N73 Mobile phone).
My hoby is Hot Air Ballooning and I'm interested in Landscape, Travel, Macro and Low Light Photography.
The Tutorials here are great, I'm learning by reading a lot.

    Greetings from Slovenia

    Good Morning, afternoon or evening:
I have spent my entire life on the front line fighting cancer and walking with patients. They have given me valuable lessons that I have not always heard or translated to my life....now is the time....I want to capture what my heart feels in a sunset, the moon, architecture, the fleeting moment of a wedding vow and the nurturing of a child....for all too soon it is lost....
Just bought a Canon EOS 7D, one UV filter and tons of books...never used a DSLR but that higher power in my life has never let me down before.....waiting for that moment to be on film....(Site is great for a newbie oncology nurse)

    Hello everyone!

I've recently upgraded to a DSLR (Nikon D3100, 18-55 kit lens) after several years of shooting with various compact cameras.

I shoot mainly landscape/nature - you can see some examples on my Flickr pages. http://www.flickr.com/photos/38184373@N04/

The tutorials on CIC have been really helpful - I'm looking forward to learning more in the future.

    Hi Paul,

I just had a look at your Flickr albums - that's quite an impressive collection you have there.

You know how to shoot trees and forests, I find they stump me (groan), I can never see the woo... (no, I'll spare you that one)

Given how you've made the most of your previous cameras, I wonder how long before you are hankering after another lens?
Probably something a bit longer, or macro.

Great to have another Nikon shooter, do be active here, it's the best way to learn (and besides, I want to see more pictures).

    Greetings from Windsor, England Sasha,

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but it is always does no harm to remind the rest of us 'living on borrowed time' they really should do something about it!

I had a Fuji S6500/S6000, so I have quite a soft spot for Fuji and if their (made by Nikon DSLR) had been more current, I might have gone that way when I 'moved up'.

Hot air ballooning sounds like it presents some photo opportunities - have you got any online anywhere?

Hello, my name is Tushar and I am from Goa, India.
Although i haven't actively pursued it, i am quite fascinated with B&W photography as it seems to offer a lot of dramatic options with the play of light and shadow.
Another form of interest is Macro photography.
At the moment i own a Canon G9 and am wondering if i made a mistake with buying the same although i believe it is a very advanced camera in it's genre. So for the moment my aim is to try and learn as much as i can about the G9 and all that i may be able to achieve with the same.
In terms of proficiency, i could only call myself an amateur hobbyist.
    Cheers.

    Thanks Dave,

I do seem to have a lot of trees (and sunsets). Maybe I should try branching out into other areas (groan). I'm trying to avoid Nikon Acquisition Syndrome until I've got a better idea what direction I want to go in (although a longer lens would be nice - I seem to be hitting the 55mm end of the zoom more than the 18). I can sometimes borrow a 105 VR Micro which is a really nice lens - if somewhat heavy...

    Hi Tushar,

Those Canon G series are quite well respected I believe and even though I have never owned one, I'm sure the G9 isn't a mistake, and despite there being a G12 now, that doesn't mean the G9 is any less able to take decent pictures. The photographer is what counts.

Don't be shy posting images for critique or asking questions, we're all here to help one another, that's why we're different from other forums.

If you want to get into B&W, be sure to check out Donald's pictures

The Grand Tour of the UK. Wonderful

And you're quite right in your separation of Orkney from Scotland. Orkney was part of Norway until given away as part of the dowry for a wedding between a Norwegian princess and the then King of Scotland. But many Orcdanians see themselves as quite distinct from Scotland and, indeed there are many, if not more, Norse and Viking influences than there are Scots.

A wonderful, glorious, magical archipeligo of islands. I love them. I'm sure you will too.

    Hi All,
I was born and raised in Germany and now live in the beautiful Sonoran Desert of Arizona in the Southwestern United States. When I first started, photography was a hobby and turned soon into a passion. Nature & Wildlife Photography are my main interests.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hi everyone, a new member here introduced to the site by a very good friend of mine that is also here. I am from Battle Creek Michigan (for now). Love to be out shooting in nature, wildlife if I can, night shots, and mostly in all seasons, weather permitting. I shoot with a couple of cameras, depending on what I want to shoot or what I am shooting. I use mainly a Canon 60-D right now but also shoot with a Rebel XT from Canon and an Olympus Stylus Tough. I hope to be able to learn even more while I am here and pick up some new techniques and editing knowledge.

Loyd - Now you've got us all wondering!

It's great to have you here and a warm welcome to you.

Hopefully you already know enough about the site to know how it works and the attitudes to helping and supporting others that are the main drivers. So, I hope you feel ready to pitch right in - start posting images and become involved in the discussions.
