Just joined. Have spent quite a bit of time reading the tutorials, really over the last couple years. Recently started diving into the forum. After reading quite a few threads I see more genuine interest in providing advice, assistance, and constuctive commentary than other sites. So then I decided to join and here I am.

I live in Chandler, AZ USA, a suburb of Phoenix but really prefer to be somewhere in the mountains.

My interest is landscape photography. I have a Canon 30D, EF 28-105 F/3.5-4.5 and EF 70-200 F4L. Of course I'm interested in upgrading, but we'll see. I do my processing in Photomatix, PhotoAcute, Lightroom 3, and CS3. I'd consider my biggest weaknesses being lack of patience (I tend to snap away and hope to get lucky every once in a while) and limited skill with Photoshop.

Look forward to much further learning.

Good intro post; it answers all the usual questions, you've already sorted the profile with Real Name and Location, so you have passed the entrance exam 'with flying colours' (where does that expression come from?)

I'm sure we can help with your desire to become a better photographer, all you have to do is be a prolific asker of questions and poster of images for critique - and we'll do the rest (OK, I suppose you need to read the replies too ).

Don't be shy, dive right in, and if anything causes a problem, just ask.

Don't be nervous, do post sooner rather than later and besides, we always say we learn more from our mistakes than we do from the good shots, so it'll be quicker

Plus, we are ALL learners here, the day we stop learning is the day to stop living (or photographing, at least)

Hi everyone!

Chris C here, joining you all from Cambridge Massachusetts. I stumbled onto your website while looking for some basics on how to move my photography from point-and-shoot with a rather expensive camera to something remotely approaching art! I have a Nikon D90, with the included 18-105mm lens, and a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS5 which I have yet to really understand or utilize properly.

My immediate goal is finding another lens and whatever necessary accessories there may be to combine photography with my other real hobby, fishkeeping. I've run into some minor issues, and I'm sure that some out there can help solve them!

Whatever the issues may be, I'm pretty certain there's at least one person (usually a lot more) who will have encountered the same issues and be able to offer some advice/suggestions/guidance.

I'm glad you've come across us tucked away in our wee corner of cyberspace. A very warm welcome.

The one thing I think you'll find that is that this is a place where people share their knowledge and experience willingly and where big egos in need of massaging and 'I'm an expert' attitudes don't and are not allowed to, exist.

We already have a Chris C who uses that as his UserName, but he's in Florida, so it's okay!! They just sit around in the sunshine all day.

So, please pitch in with your questions. And I hope we see some of your images soon as well.

Hopefully the first thing you've noticed is that most of us use our real names on here. So, if you want to do that, you can go into Edit Profile and put your name under 'Real Name', so it appears in the side bar in all your posts.

There are other G1 users on here, so you will be able to compare notes. Guidance and support and the sharing of knowledge and experience is is what CiC does well .... as well as having some fun along the way.

So, please do ask any photography-related questions, join in discussions and, of course, post up some of your work, either for comment and criticism or in the competitions and challenges.

Do you specialise to any degree in your subject matter? If so, there's bound to be at least one other person on here who shares that interest.
But, I think it's fair to say, the driving force on CiC is the desire and willingness to all share knowledge and to engage constructively with each other in discussing matters photographic and in commenting on work.

Your knowledge and experience certainly show through on the Flickr pages. 'Misty Morning' in the 'A Morning at Sinhagad Fort' is a beauty (as are many others). 'Self Portrait Too' puts you right in there with Steve (Wirefox). You've got a similar approach! I'm sure you'll find lots of common ground!
