Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hello,

My name is Carl and I have an addiction =) I am pretty sarcastic as a whole, but LOVE to find unique views on most of the objects in the pictures I take. Some of the pictures will be a collaboration between myself and my nephew Joe. HE is the REAL artist, but I can find gold once a decade too darnit =)

Anyway, nice site and opportunity to get my (our) feet wet since we are relative newborns in the Digital Photography realm. Thanks for having us!

Oh, BTW, don't know much of anything PP wise, so will be looking for TONS of feedback and tips. Assume I (we) are a sponge =) Thanks again!

    Hi Carl and Joe,

You have certainly come to the right place to learn.

It may help us to know what camera and PP software you are using when you start asking questions (don't be shy).

    Welcome from,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi everyone

Recently joined the site as it looked good and I am just getting into higher end digi photography.

I have a great interest in photography in general with a wide range of equipment obtained over many years and still used.

My most recent purchase (last week) is the Canon 40D and I can't wait to see the resulting pics. I am semi retired and wish to take nature pics.

I still use film cameras including the super Canon Eos 90, a 645 Bronica ETRS and a couple of medium format Yashicas which turn out excellent slides.

A Canon EF (the first camera to go to 1000th sec), a A1 I also own and are in excellent condition and full working order.

My oldest and most treasured camera is a full frame trolly mounted plate studio camera which was used as a portrait camera for many years and has a hand ground lens of some 150mm across with twelve elements. This camera was made in 1900 and has a set of water gate apertures. A bit different to the aperture equipement we are now used to! the shutter is a half dome operated by a rubber sqeeze bulb which opens the two halves allowing the light in. I have several dark slides at half plate size and have used the cameras some years ago. All this on a mahogany/rodewood carriage with tilt and turn.

I would love to use the plate camera again for portraits as the lens has a superb natural softness but unfortunately the ground screen has broken also the bellows need maintenance as they have dried out somewhat.

Does anyone know of anyone who might help me repair the camera to working order?

    Hi drlalitha,

That's a pretty diverse range of things to photograph there, a bit like me, except I have yet to try portraits.

    Hi Nigel,

So, you're a serial photographer then?

Having whetted our apetite, you realise you are going to have to post a picture of your treasure, perhaps along with a scan of one of the images it has produced.

I didn't think they made lenses with that many elements in those days, which shows how ignorant I am about these things.
<At this point Dave pauses while the rest of the gang here tell you I am ignorant about everything! >

Good to have you with us.

Also, if you have an online gallery, may we have a peek?

Welcome to the CiC forums from,

Hi my name is Rob. I work in a bucket factory hence nic.
Bought my first true SLR this week so not sure how to use it to its true potential, but want to learn. I may ask some daft if not silly questions in the coming weeks/months and a bit of duming down would help. I just want to take nice pics
So you guys/girls know its a Nikon D90 with two lens thrown in. It was a bundle from a UK high st shop. So if/WHEN I ask a daft question please help.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi Rob,

You have come to the right place to learn and I'm sure you'll be happy with your new camera.

We have members of all abilities, with a vast range of cameras here, so don't worry about asking questions, as long as they're not something that's on page 1 of the camera owner's manual.

It may also be worth doing a search to see if your question has been asked and answered before. But if in doubt, don't be shy, just ask anyway, everyone is keen to help a fellow photographer 'in distress'.

We'll also look forward to seeing some of your pictures.
As soon as you start producing pictures you're proud of, have a go at entering the weekly challenges, at the moment Canon user entries seem to outnumber those from 'Nikon' and 'Others'.

So, with a "welcome to CiC", I'll sign off,

Welcome Rob, that's a fine camera you have, not that I'm biased in any way.

First post here guys and gals, I'm Jonathan from Huddersfield, I'm into the technical side of photography as I ain't no artist. Mainly astrophotography stuff but I have a lot to learn about how to make the clouds go away.
Kit includes Nikon D50 and D70s, several astro 'scopes and a cooled CCD mono imaging camera for the dark stuff.

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)

    Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to the forums, there was a bit of a discussion going on a few weeks ago about long exposure times, where I'm sure your knowledge could have been useful.

    Do you have a gallery?

    as I ain't no artist
I would have said the same as you a couple of years ago, but I think I'm developing an eye for it.
I have found it comes with practice and 'exposure' to other's images, especially around CiC.

Of course, I could be wrong and suffering delusions of grandiuer - which I can't even spell

    Anyway, welcome from,

    Hi to all members

I have had digital cameras for some time now, and i am learning all the time. The problem is of course the more I try to learn the more there is to learn. what you call a catch 22 situation.
    thats enough of my babblings.
Just to say that at the moment I am comparing the canon G10 with the 50D. which i have received as pressies.
