Hi all,

I'm completely new to this fantastic website - and am quite overawed and intimidated by the quality of the images posted

I've been an amateur photographer for 50+ years (120 Kodak!) and enthusiastically did all my own dark-room processing (B&W) whilst a teenager. However I never made the leap to colour processing, and my interest in photography waned with the lack of "hands-on" control, so that for many years I just took "holiday snaps".

My enthusiasm was revived by the introduction of digital photography, and I purchased a Fuji finepix in 1999 and then one of the first "affordable" DSLRs, a Canon EOS 300D, in 2003. I've acquired a few lenses since, and now I've just "graduated" to an EOS 60D which I'm looking forward to appreciating as I work through the manual

My first love is landscape and wild-life photography ... but my first-love has been somewhat side-lined by the arrival of grandchildren, who now seem to be the subject of the majority of my shots!



I'm now semi-retired, so looking forward to having more time for such a satisfying hobby.

Good intro post - it answers all the usual questions, so I'll get straight on and advise you not to be overawed, just dive right in and post some of your own shots for critique or in the Mini Comps.

The best way to improve is to get constructive feedback on what you've shot yourself - but do give us a little background information on the shot(s) and we'll take it from there.

hello fellow photo enthusiasts!
my name is "light man," ha, Gabriel/Gabe
I am presently in the military in the medical field stationed in NJ and also have a home in NJ, married with two children, Emily 14 and Jonathan 11
my first real interest in photography began in Nov 2004 when I purchased a Casio Xlim (7 megapixels at that time cost me $400!), however, I have always surrounded myself by images of all kinds, funny ones, emotional ones, you name it
presently, I have, a nikon d40x purchased in aug 2007, also have a canon powershot sx110, canon powershot sd1400, and an iphone!
in aug of 2007 I began using photoshop cs3 and now have cs5, I am a intermediate user of photoshop and use it pretty much everyday in order to eventually master it, I do have two wacom tablets for two laptops, I have concentrated on ps strongly over the last 3.5 years since the learning curve is so steep and It seems to me that lots of practice and perseverance with this program is key to getting a handle on it
I love all kinds of photography but leaning towards nightime and lighting effects, I am especially fascinated by the concept of light! I have over 30,000+ images over the last 4 years and some of them I believe are quite descent but we will see, you all have the great eyes here!!
I take criticism well and look forward to learning from all of you!

I don't know where you find the time though!

I live in Ft. Myers, Florida, and found this site quite by accident through various tutorials. I am an amateur photographer and enjoy a wide range of styles from landscape and wildlife to portrait and abstract photography. Hello my name is Matt from west yorkshire - hope all are well - just stumbled across this website and some great info on here - recently picked up a dslr camera and started playing - some amazing pics on here, seem to spend most of my time taking photos of pets and friends at the min in need of lots of practice and clearly have a lot to learn but feel this is something i can get a lot of enjoyment out of.

I have fo many years used a compact digital camera to record many of the beautiful places that I have visited, both here and abroad. I have recently retired from my full time job and have bought a DSLR with the hope of learning much more about photography and being able to take better photographs. Having the time for more travel I look forward to being able to practice the art of photography. I have in the past concentrated mainly on Landscapes, but now hope to learn about other aspects. From what I have seen from this forum and site, there are many people from whom I can learn and get inspiration.

Hi! My name is Jenn. My day job is as a graduate school instructor at a university in the state of Missouri. I am a new mom and while I've always been into photography as a hobby, I've recently become a bit more serious about the sport. I'm very interested in natural light portrait photography and nature photography, as well. I just upgraded my lens and am interested in getting a polarizer filter. I'm stuck between two types, though: the traditional multi-coated circular polarizer filter or the new HRT (high rate transparency) circular polarizer (these are single-coated, but claim to be better due to the HRT techonology). Any thoughts/advice on which way I should go?

My name is Sonny and I come from a land down under. (Hmmm!! Reminds me of a song) Anyway, I have dabled with photography on and off for a lot of years. Up until now I have mainly photographed family and friends. So, I guess you would call me a people photographer. However, I really want to get some good equipment so I can do landscapes. I have been looking through the tutorials here regarding filters and the like and I think this would be a very good place to get tips on what to do and to keep me inspired. I'm Rebecca. I call Windsor, Berkshire (UK) home but actually live in Tunbridge Wells Kent now. I'm an accountant and enjoy photography as a hobby although I would say I am the stage even before beginner! I like taking wildlife photos and I'm also keen to try some more macro photography. I currently have a Panasonic Lumix TZ5 but more often use the Fuji S6500 that my dad kindly lends me (I better be nice as he lives on this forum hello!).

I'm currently installing Photoshop Elements and intend to have a play with some of my pictures after seeing what a difference editing can make. I'm hoping for some constructive criticism as I have a lot to learn. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures soon and get some feedback

I have been lurking for a while, I couldn't believe it when I logged in and it said I registered in May 2008. I hope that getting over the hurdle of the first post will mean I can participate more now.
