    Schloss Linderhof & Neuschwanstein

This is another shot from 2003 I have worked on. It is also one of the strangest images of a palace that I have in my archives.

This palace was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria (one of three that he built; the "fairytale castle", Neuschwanstein is the most well known). It is the smallest of the three palaces and the only one that he lived in.

When we visited there, the exterior was being restored so the authorities had a full-sized picture of the facade erected in front of the scaffolding.

It looks amazing, I can't even imagine how people were building them back then. Neuschwanstein is definitely a place worth visiting at least once in a life time. I've been there 2 times already, during the last year. It's all thanks to the article which I found on the internet, about Schloss Neuschwanstein. It's a truly magnificent place, like a fairy tail in real life. Those who didn't visit it yet, you should make some free time and go for it, and you will thank me later.

There's a book, "Cathedral - The Story of It's Construction" by David Macaulay, which reveals medieval building methods ... worth reading, IMHO.

Schloss Linderhoff May 1989. I always intended to return after the makeovers on Linderhof and Neuschwanstein to photograph them again.

Didn't "Mad King" Ludwig have Neuschwanstein built in the 1800's?

Yes, he did two other castles as well. Linderhof is the only one that was completed and actually used by him. A third one, Heerenchiemsee, was an homage to France's Louis IV's Versailles was based on that famous palace. I had been there once, some 40 years ago so no images to share of it, but it has a Hall of Mirrors, just like Versailles.
