    Herons Waiting for the Tide

In an area where some land reclamation is happening pine poles that have been driven into the tidal zone have become the hang out for many herons as they await the tide coming in. On some days I have seen around twenty perched on the poles, the light perfect but no camera with me.

Yesterday there were just a few, not as close as I had hoped, the light poor but it gave me some practice. These are each around a 50% crop of the frame.

Image no 2 is different. Maybe focus on that beautiful angle of the heron's head.
    Cheers Ole

Nice images. #2 is the most interesting because it’s unusual.

Thanks Ole, different poses that also include the eyes will be my aim at the next session.

Thank you Dan, I'll be aiming for unusual. I'm tempted to set up, throw a stone in the water and fire a burst but that would be cheating

Thanks Geoff, I think having the camera on a tripod and plenty of time while they remained there helped.

Yes, well trained subjects are a great help.

Always a struggle to get good focus and exposure when hand held on a moving bird.
