Fixing a pump, Steps 1-6

It's a little water pump that I messed up trying to pump garbage. "No problem" I go. Just take it apart and give it a good clean, LOL.

Step 1.



Applying my usual excessive force to an obviously seized thread ... ker-snap!

Step 2.



No problem, I'll just file some flats on it ...

Step 3.



... and put the vise-grips (Mole wrench) to work. Except that it didn't.

Step 4.



Then I drill a hole for an ex-RAF Ezy-Out (screw extractor).

Step 4a. missing pictures of endless soaking in Gunk, bashing the end, blow lamping, etc. ad nauseam.

Step 5.



At last, disassembled.

Step 6.



Cleaned up, reassembled and good to go ...

It's wonderful how an apparently simple one minute task can turn into something that takes up far far more time!

Do you have a specific purpose for the pump or will it sit waiting until a need arises?

Thanks Bruce. I bought it long ago for use with a composting toilet, hence the term "garbage" in the OP. It plugged up, hence the need for disassembly.

Since then I've learned that it's actually for campers (caravans) and the like's water supply. I now have two campers, so I might be able to bodge it into either one in an emergency. The red thing is a pressure switch so that the pump can charge up an accumulator and then shut itself off.

I've been in similar situations far too often, Ted. And I have gone on to snap the Easy-out which totally ruined everything.

I am presently assembling an adult tricycle which came with a lovely glossy printed set of color directions for assembly. Unfortunately, the tricycle in the instructions is not the same as he one I am working on. This requires quite a bit of ad-libbing in the assembly procedure which is something that I am not particularly good at!

In my view, if it needs an instruction manual to figure out how to put it together, the designer should be shot for making the darn thing too complicated to assemble!
