Say Hello to ... Laura (Again!)

I'm slowly working my way through 700+ images. THese are 4 from the "Hard Light" series; a high-contrast look where I hit the model with a strobe through a grid from the front - add a little soft hair/rim lighting from behind (and above), and then add some soft fill-flash from the side.

Very good, Colin. Numero 1/2 for me - classic poses, very nicely done.

#3 - I think the hair very untidy which detracts from the shot.

#4 Is good on the head and shoulders, but the hands/arms like that looks too artificial a pose to me.

No 1 works best for me. Laura looks terrified in 4, and a little uncertain in 2 & 3, but then I've never been a very good judge of women!!
I'm not sure that the zipped front entirely works, but I can't fault the photographic skills which far exceed anything I could achieve.

Wasn't really an "artifical pose" - just something Laura chose at that moment. I like it because it gets away from the classic "cooki cutter" poses.

I know what you mean - I actually cloned out the zipper in some of the gun shots in a previous thread. Here I don't mind it so much however as it bisects other parts of the images and makes for a certain symmetry. At that end of the day too, I can only photograph what they're wearing, and she was wearing a top with a zip.

She does have quite a few, and isn't thrilled about them, but I quite like them.

There's no real trick to it, other than accurate white balancing and exposure.
