    Manfred,

    Thanks. Good idea.

The first test print is on Canson Baryta, but I have a stock of Rag Photographique, so I could try both.

I have started putting up 8 x 10 prints in my study, using standard mats to make it easy to swap them out. It's a cheap way to have time to look at test prints, and it livens the place up. I'm increasingly inclined to follow your suggestion and darken the tiles a bit.

I suspect that the Baryta will work better in this case given the reds, but every so often I get a real surprise when I use a paper I thought that might not work.

Another "trick" that I will sometimes use is to run the image past someone whose opinion I trust and get their view. One of my mentors has a friend who is an interior decorator and he will run his prints by her to get her view before finalizing the print selections and paper used for a show.
