    Duck Bill Shinkansen

Not all experiments work out as well as one would like. This is the front end of a 700 series Shinkansen (bullet train) I shot at the JR Central Museum in Nagoya, Japan almost 5 years ago. The lighting, the setting and hoards of people conspired against me, but in some ways, it's still an interesting shot.

This was the first of the "Duck Bull" design that reduced noise and pressure when the train entered a tunnel. Subsequent series (N700, N700A and N700S) all continued with this concept. The last of the 700 series train sets were taken out of service and scrapped last month (March 2020).

A toilet seat with headlights? Probably something that the Japanese might come up with though...

I walked through a Kitchen and Bathroom store a few weeks ago and they had some of the Japanese Toto toilets equipped with Washlets. When someone walked by, the seat raised automatically. I had wished that I had a black marker along to outline some teeth on the device.
