Yes, that confused me when I moved to the USA from England. The singular does make sense though because a Company is a single entity. Oddly enough, one does say "they" or "them" when referring to actions or interactions, e.g. "Sigma makes cameras ... they also make lenses" or "I emailed Sigma last year and they said ..." even though the reply was made by an individual.
