    Fuji Finepix S4300

    Hi Everyone,
I've never done any photography, but thought i'd give it a go. I bought my camera from Argos 'cos it had good reviews and seemed good for a beginner. It's been sat in the box unused for about 7yrs now. Now i've just opened a Facebook a/c and wanted to start taking photos to post there. I've been reading on the internet how to link the camera up to my computer, they all show on the internet how to hook the camera up to laptops , and i've a desktop, and it's in a built-in unit, so i'm struggling to get around the back.......... Still not to worry, if it went in, it must come out.
Anyway, i've just been having a surf for photograhy sites where a complete beginner may find out where to start, and i came across this site. So for the moment just wanted to say Hello
    Bill.

    Welcome to CiC!

A desktop and laptop are both computers and whether you use one or the other, that functionality is the same. The only difference with laptops is that they may have a built-in card reader, something most desktops do not.

You likely have two options; buy an external card reader for the desktop or use the cable that came with your camera to plug into one of the USB ports on your computer. The external card reader is usually the option most people use because the download speeds are usually quicker. If you go that route, don't buy the cheapest on as they can run both the card and the images stored on it.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I've just checked the Argos site and they've got about half dozen card readers, rangong from £16 to £90. They've all got good, near 5* reviews. I'll read again the ones in the middle. I'm waiting at the moment to get a Webcam from Argos, with so many people working from home during this virus, everywhere is out of stock for the one i want. It's like trying to find chickens teeth.

There’s no way that you need to pay anywhere nearly 90 pounds. I use a very good Lexar USB 3 card reader that costs about US $25.

The one that I recommend is one from Lexar: https://www.lexar.com/portfolio_page...l-slot-reader/

Anyone I know who uses a card reader and has this particular one is extremely happy with it. That being said, my cameras use both SD and CF cards, so it is ideal for me.

I have also been very happy with the above Lexar card reader... I like the idea of transferring images from card to computer rather than from camera to computer...
