I spent hours at my favorite bog/marsh yesterday watching the dragonflies mating and placing eggs in the little pond. One of my observations during several seasons is that dragon flies suffer wing injuries. I wonder if they are caused by mid air collisions, fighting/biting or perhaps hard encounters with tree branches or other hard objects? Battle marked wings help me recognize individual dragon flies on images. Here is one perching on a dead bush for a few seconds. The same dragonfly (judging by its right rear wing injury) came back to more or less the same spot many times. No real luck with DIF (Dragonfly in Flight) though, I need to try again.
