    Blair Mill Sheave Tower

I've spent pretty well all week working on getting an old project ready to print.

The Blair Mill Sheave Tower was an auxiliary power unit for the nearby Blair Mill in the village of Blair that is now part of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. The Sheave Tower was built in 1876 across the road from the mill itself. The extra power was used to increase the capacity of the mill itself.

The mill is still in operation using more modern technology and grinds corn.

I started taking pictures in October 2013 and finished in August 2014. The mill is located some 500km / 300 miles from where I live and was near the college where my youngest daughter was studying, so every time we happened to be in the area, I took time to photograph it. I wanted to get one image for each season, but ended up being there in both the early and late spring, so I have a total of 5 images.

Some final prep and I will print all five over the next few days.

A nicely recorded series Manfred, well done.
Having searched the Internet it seems that the building has been restored as a non working museum attraction.

What an excellent series showing a landmark through the seasons!

I was fascinated by the slight variation in the tones of the wooden structure from one image to the next. Each truly compliments the changing landscape, with more vibrancy and colour contrast in late spring/summer but more subtlety and tonal sympathy in the winter/early spring. This makes each image strong in its own right yet contributes to the impact of the series and perhaps chimes with the viewers experience of the seasons.

Was going to make similar comments to those made by Rufus, however, Rufus has expressed them better than I would have done!
An inspirational project, Manfred, which starts me thinking of what I might have the opportunity to so something along the same lines.

Only a patient mind who is sure about the end result can take up such a project. Most people are interested in immediate results...

Splendid series Manfred. Requires a fair bit of discipline to get it done !
One tiny regret : that the autumn shot is from a slightly different viewpoint.

A very interesting structure, almost church-like (for very tall people.)

That it is and certainly has that appearance. The mill used a small vertical water turbine connected to a dynamo to generate electricity. My understanding is that electrical cables, high above the ground, came out of the top window and ran across to the mill.

One I start traveling again, I will look at fixing that issue by retaking the shot. The date of the autumn image (which was the first of the series) was taken while we were in town for the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday (October and usually near peak fall colours). I expect that we will be repeating that trip again once it is safe to travel again.
