Nikon SB 910 Speedlight in the Manual mode

I have a SB 910 speedlight. In the manual mode I can set an EV value of + or - between 0.3 to 0.7; however I can not set the EV value to 0.0.
I talked to a Nikon representative. She suggested that my camera (Nikon D 300) is not compatiable with the SB 910 in that one area only.
I conducted an experiment in which I shot a power setting of 1/8 with no EV values shown on the LCD screen. I then shot 4 more shots between + or - 0.3 to 0.7. with each value indicated on the LCD screen.
I compared all 5 shots, and there was a difference in the exposure on all 5 shots.
Am wondering if the EV values are NOT shown that amounts to a EV value of 0.0.
    Any comments will be helpful.
    Thank you.

Re: Nikon SB 910 Speedlight in the Manual mode

I have an SB-900 and it behaves exactly the same way as your SB-910 on manual.

When it is at a full stop, only that value is shown. If I am dialing down the power level I will get the -0.3 EV, -0.7 EV and when I dial up it goes +0.3 EV, +0.7 EV. There is no offset indication at full power, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc. This makes perfect sense to me.

An indicator that reads 1/8 +0.0 seems rather redundant. In my case there are two positions between each power level.

There is nothing wrong with what your flash is doing and it seems to be working properly, based on how you thought it should behave rather than how it does behave...

Thank you for posting this Bruce.

I just went to confirm the indication of my 910 on the D300 only to find my 910 has just packed up

Works fine if the battery cover is not closed completely so now looking for clues to dismantle it

Thank you Grahame, and Manfred for your response.
Grahame, I hope your problem with the 910 gets resolved.

Bruce - I just checked the operation of my Godox Witsro AD-360 and its behavior is identical to what my Nikon SB-900 does on manual.

It is a 100% manual flash with no advanced features like the Nikon flashes.

    Manfred, thanks for the information.

I recently purchased a Sekonic flash meter from B&H.
